Yash Dhull-led Team India defeated England by 4 wickets at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium to win a record fifth U-19 World Cup title. Previously, India had won the U19 World Cup in 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2018.
Soon after India claimed victory in the final, BCCI secretary Jay Shah took to social media to announce cash rewards for the players and the members of the support staff. Each player will get Rs 40 lakh while the members of the support staff are set to get Rs 20 lakh. “I’m pleased to announce the reward of 40 lacs per player and 25 lacs per support staff for the U19 #TeamIndia contingent for their exemplary performance in #U19CWCFinal. You have made India proud,” Jay Shah said in a twitter post.
BCCI president Sourav Ganguly also expressed his wishes to saying the cash reward is a small token as the efforts put in by the under-19 contingent is invaluable. “Congratulations to the under 19 team and the support staff and the selectors for winning the world cup in such a magnificent way…The cash prize announced by us of 40 lakhs is a small token of appreciation but their efforts are beyond value .. magnificent stuff..@bcci,” Ganguly wrote on Twitter.
With this win, Dhull joined the illustrious list of captains — Mohammad Kaif, Virat Kohli, Unmukt Chand, Prithvi Shaw, who have lifted the U19 trophy for India in the past. Five titles and eight final appearances is a testament to India’s wide pool of talent and cricket structure as well.
