The World number 1, Novak Djokovic has had a great year in 2021 reaching new heights and joining the likes of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer as the only ever 20 time grand slam winners in history.
The Serb went on a 27 match winning streak in 2021. Unheard of nowadays with the intense competition from the likes of Nadal and Federer but also Tsitsipas, Medvedev, Zverev, Thiem and so many more,
Djokovic went on to win 3 majors this year, looking like his old self again as he started the year with 17 slams in his name and ended on 20.
Nadal and Djokovic who had already reached the 20 grand slam milestone in 2020 had become the GOATs of Tennis but in 2021 the Serbian joined them as he defeated Medvedev first up in the Australian Open finals in three straight sets.
Australia has been Djokovic’s second home and has been compared to Nadal at Roland Garros, however Nadal has won 13 times at the French Open while Novak needs 4 more titles in Australia to match that dominance.
He continued the year with a devastating performance at the Roland Garros as he beat the injury ridden Nadal on his home turf at the French Open in a 4 hour finale that turned back the clock on these two beasts.
Post that he showed his game on the grass as he defeated Berettini at the Wimbledon in the absence of legends like Federer and Nadal.
This got him to his 20 major grand slams, tying with the other two GOATs showing the world the dominance of the Big Three is here to stay for a couple of more years.
The serb had such a great year that he finished with a 55-7 win-loss record. That speaks for itself.
