Former Australia’s coach, Justin Langer to get an offer from ECB for the position of Head Coach

England would be prepared to make Justin Langer the highest-paid head coach in their history following his bitter departure from the Australia job over the weekend.

The ECB board might shell out an eyebrow-raising sum of money to hire Justin Langer. Langer, who had taken over as Australia’s coach in 2018 after the Sandpaper-gate scandal in South Africa, on Saturday stepped down unhappy with CA’s decision to offer him just a six-month contract for guiding the team to its maiden ICC T20 World Cup trophy in the UAE and a 4-0 Ashes triumph at home.

The 51-year-old became a free agent on Saturday when he turned down a six-month extension to his current deal and quit with immediate effect. The ECB chief executive Tom Harrison recently has admitted the board will look for the best candidate while looking into the financial constraints “We have to make the right decisions around coaching budgets. Clearly, you are coaching England. We need the best coaches available to do that,” said Harrison.

Meanwhile, Former Australia opening batter Matthew Hayden has suggested that ECB must sign Langer, given his four-year tenure while Ponting said that this was a strange time for a coach to depart. “Sign him up. If he can turn Cricket Australia around in four years, imagine what he could do with England. God help us,” said Hayden.

Former England skipper Andrew Strauss, who took over as England’s managing director of cricket from Ashley Giles, was quoted as saying after Langer resigned from his post as Australia’s head coach that, “I know him (Langer) well and, on the surface, he’s done a very good job with that Australian cricket team so I wouldn’t rule him out (for the coaching job),” Strauss said.

Mitchell Johnson slams Pat Cummins after Justin Langer’s exit

Former Aussie cricketers have slammed the national players for not backing Justin Langer as Australia’s chief coach. His four-year coaching contract was set to expire in June, and reportedly there were speculations as Langer’s contract might not continue further due to ongoing player dissatisfaction.

As the current skipper, Cummins is perhaps the most powerful man in Australian cricket, but many were intrigued as he failed to endorse Langer at any stage during the summer or in recent days as speculation around his future heated up.

Mitchell Johnson slams Pat Cummins after Justin Langer’s exit as head coach. “Pat Cummins has been lauded as some type of cricketing saint since his elevation to the top job this summer. Cummins might have delivered with the ball during the Ashes series, but he has failed his first big test as captain pretty miserably,” Johnson wrote in a column for The West Australian, as reported by Fox Sports.

Johnson mentioned that Cummins holds a lot of power, and it’s quite obvious that he had an agenda to change the coach. “He had plenty of public opportunities to endorse an extension for Langer. So, when he let it through to the keeper every time, it became pretty obvious he didn’t want it to happen. Cummins holds a lot of power and must have been central to what’s happened. He’s clearly had an agenda to get in a coach he wants. His recent interviews have been gutless by not respecting his coach when he could have been upfront from the start,” added the 40-year-old.

Justin Langer’s manager says the “views of a faceless few” have driven the World Cup and Ashes-winning coach out of his job four months ahead of the end of his contract, while his former skipper, Ricky Ponting, called Cricket Australia’s treatment of Langer “embarrassing”.

‘Tu bas six count karna aaj mere’ – When Dinesh Bana slammed 170 in a Challenger Trophy

India U19 team created history after lifting the World Cup Trophy for the record fifth time at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Saturday. India are the most successful team at U19 World Cups, having won titles in 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2018 previously.

India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Bana made the winning moment special for India as he completed India’s title win with a six. Coming in to bat after the fall of the 6th wicket, Bana upped the ante and remained unbeaten on 13 off just 5 balls. His cameo included 2 back-to-back sixes. His last six over long-on to give India their fifth title on Saturday. His shot reminded many of former India captain MS Dhoni’s six in the final of the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium.

However, Bana was not the first-choice keeper for the Indian side. In fact, during a Challenger Trophy match between India B and India F, Bana’s friend and teammate Nishant Sindhu told him that the selectors are coming to see him play. Bana told to Sindhu to just count the sixes that he hits. Interestingly
similar incident had happened with legendary keeper-batter Dhoni .

Bana’s knock of 170 contained 14 sixes and 10 fours and easily convinced the selectors to give him a chance. In hindsight, the move to back him proved out to be the correct one as he played quite a few cameos including in the summit clash where his six to finish off the match
