England beat Afghanistan by 15 runs through the DLS method, in the first semi-final of the ICC U19 World Cup. England enter the final of the tournament for the first time in 24 years. For Afghanistan, this is also the second time that they have qualified for the semifinals of the ICC U19 World Cup. The first time they qualified was during the 2018 edition.
Rain delayed the semifinal after England won the toss and elected to bat. England were five down having barely put 100 runs on the board. However, the rain came again to delay play for a further half-hour and led to revised conditions of 47-overs-per-side. While, George Bell and Alex Horton managed to give them a respectable total, which helped them to a final total of 231.
The earlier interruptions from the weather meant Afghanistan had a revised DLS target to match this score and chasing their first ever ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup final. Chasing the target from England, the Afghanistan team was once in the commanding position. there was an unmatched half-century partnership between the Afghan batsmen and the score reached near 100 in the 24th over.
But, under pressure they lost wickets. The team lost 3 wickets for the next 12 runs. While lower order gave Afganistan a chance to return in the match. Afghanistan needed 18 runs in the last over. However they were restricted to 215 for nine in 47 overs.
