Lasith Embuldeniya gets Virat Kohli with a peach of a delivery

Indian batsman Virat Kohli, who became the 12th Indian cricketer to feature in 100 Tests, was dismissed for 45 during the first Test of the two-match series against Sri Lanka in Mohali on Friday. He couldn’t make the occasion an even more special one as he got out five runs short of his half century.

Former indian captain Virat Kohli  was sent off by Sri Lankan spinner Lasith Embuldeniya in the first innings of the match. After Mayank Agarwal’s wicket, Virat Kohli came out to bat to a standing ovation at Mohali Stadium. The right-handed batsman again looked in good form. However, in the 43rd over of India’s first inning, Lasith Embuldeniya hit a longer ball around his stump and spun on Virat Kohli’s bat, resulting in a clean pitch. Kohli scored 45 runs from 76 balls and hit 5 bounds during his tenure. Kohli couldn’t even touch the ball as his off-stump was disturbed.

India opted to bat first on what looked like a great pitch for batting.  India  off to a flying start with openers Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal attacking bowlers from the outset. The openers managed a 52-run stand before Rohit was dismissed for 29. India lost Mayank Agarwal for 33 ahead of Lunch. Kohli then combined with India’s new No.3 Hanuma Vihari to stitch a 90-run stand.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli achieved another milestone during Day 1 of the first Test match between India and Sri Lanka. Playing his 100th Test match, Kohli completed 8000 runs in Test cricket and becomes the 6th Indian batter to achieve the feat. Earlier, Kohli was felicitated by the BCCI on Friday commemorating his landmark 100th Test match.
