Spirit of Cricket: Shakib Al Hasan Wins Hearts With His Sporting Gesture Against Afghanistan

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan showed a spirit of cricket gesture during the second ODI against Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Bangladesh is currently hosting the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan.

The incident happened in the 17th over of the second innings when Afghanistan were chasing the target of 307. The visitors were three down on 84 runs and they were about to lose Najibullah Zadran as well. Rahmat Shah played the ball straight towards the bowler, Shakib. The shot was so straight that the ball hit the stump while the non-striker Zadran was out of his crease.

While, Shakib had tried to grab the ball and after that, it hit the stumps, the umpires checked and gave the decision as out. However, Shakib wasn’t convinced with the decision since he knew he hadn’t touched the ball going towards the stumps and discussed the same with the umpires along with captain Tamim Iqbal. Shakib directly told the umpire that the ball was not hit in his hand.

Shakib was not sure if the ball had touched his fingers and retracted the appeal, but the third umpire still had a look but the Bangladeshi players decided to take back the appeal, and the third umpire came to a conclusion that the ball didn’t touch Shakib’s fingers, thus, not out was called. Regarding this incident, Shakib is being praised a lot by the fans and the cricket fraternity for his Spirit of Cricket moment during the match.
