Australia Announce Test Squad For Pakistan Tour

Australia have named a full-strength Test squad for next month’s tour of Pakistan. This series will comprise of 3 Tests, 3 ODIs, and a T20I match. Andrew McDonald will serve as the interim head coach of the side following the resignation of Justin Langer .

Pat Cummins will be leading the Australian side in a historic three-Test tour and he will be accompanied by prominent names of Josh Hazlewood, David Warner, Mitchell Starc,  Steve Smith. Scott Boland who thrilled fans with a stunning debut at the Melbourne Cricket Ground during that series — including a spell that saw him take six wickets for seven runs — has been retained. However, the 18-member squad has more backup in the spin department for stalwart Nathan Lyon, who is joined by leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson and left-arm bowler Ashton Agar.

Australia have also added Mitchell Marsh as another all-rounder to the squad while Josh Inglis is the second wicket-keeper in the squad.  The Tests will be part of the ICC World Test Championship, while the ODIs will be part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League, a 13-team competition from which the top seven teams and hosts India will qualify directly for the 2023 event. This tour will be their first Pakistan tour in 24 years.

Justin Langer resigns as coach of Australian cricket team

Justin Langer has resigned as coach of the Australian men’s cricket team. Langer’s management confirmed on Saturday morning the Australian Hall-of-Fame opener and coach had tendered his resignation, effective immediately.

Langer’s contract was due to expire in June, and it was always CA’s intention to address his future once last year’s T20 World Cup and the recent Ashes series had been completed. He leaves despite Australia having won the T20 World Cup and Ashes in recent months.

After weeks of scrutiny about whether he would have his four-year contract extended beyond June, the Cricket Australia board met on Friday to discuss the 51-year-old West Australian’s future. However, Cricket Australia offered Justin Langer a short-term extension only, before the coach decided to quit his post and end six months of speculation. A disappointed Langer told officials on Saturday morning he was resigning with immediate effect, after a late-night meeting with Cricket Australia bosses on Friday.

In confirming the resignation, CA chief Nick Hockley said: “We are naturally disappointed Justin has decided against continuing as coach but respect his decision and wish him all the best in the future” Langer’s manager James Henderson had earlier tweeted: “As a player Justin retired on top after a 5-0 Ashes whitewash. Today, despite the views of a faceless few, he finishes his time as Australian cricket coach winning the T20 World Cup and the Ashes. Lest we forget what JL took over in 2018.”
