“KL Rahul will open with Rohit Sharma in the T20 WC 2022” : Parthiv Patel

Former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel believes premier batter Rahul will open the inning with Rohit at the ICC World T20 2022.  If Kishan is out of rhythm, he may not be the best option to partner with Rohit Sharma at the top. That being the case, KL Rahul  would be the best choice for India, as per Parthiv.

Patel has said that the Karnataka cricketer is a long-term opening option according to him whereas, Kishan allows Rohit to take a bit of time when he is in the right mind space.  “KL Rahul is a long-term opening option for me. When Rahul returns to the team, I think he will open the innings with Rohit. Personally, I feel he will open with Rohit in the T20 World Cup,” Parthiv told Cricbuzz.

“Ishan Kishan is not a bad option when he is in rhythm. When he is in the right mind space, he allows Rohit to take a bit of time. But I think it will be Rahul and Rohit at the World Cup”, Parthiv added.

“Ishan Kishan was trying to hit the ball too hard instead of timing it. When he was playing cross-batted strokes, he was using the bottom hand so much that the face of the bat was closing. Instead, he could have shown some patience and played a few shots with a straight bat. But it just did not happen for him on the day,” Parthiv added.

Former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra also picked Rahul as Rohit’s opener partner for the ICC World T20. “For me, this has been the No. 1 opening pair for quite some time. Of course, when it comes to options, India have innumerable ones and it is up to them which one to pick. Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devdutt Padikkal, Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Venkatesh Iyer, Ishan Kishan – all are openers. But for me, in T20Is, Rohit and KL Rahul are the best options as openers for the T20 World Cup,” Nehra added.

Jimmy Neesham’s hilarious comment on KL Rahul’s picture of LSG squad

The Lucknow Super Giants are one of the two new teams to enter the competition and they would be very pleased with the squad they have managed to put together prior to their inaugural season.

Once the bidding war was over and Lucknow had its 21-member contingent ready, Rahul who will be leading the Lucknow side in the 15th edition of the Indian premier league shared a picture of the list he made of the names of the 21 squad members including himself. On Sunday Rahul posted a picture of himself noting down the names of the players his Lucknow franchise bought during the IPL auctions held on Saturday and Sunday. Rahul wrote the names of the players in his handwriting and shared the image on Instagram with the caption, “A new journey.”

Meanwhile, curious to understand how the picture was taken given both his hands could be seen the in image, Jimmy Neesham couldn’t resist asking his former IPL skipper Rahul this. Neesham, impressed with the photography skills of Rahul, couldn’t hold himself from responding to the same as he asked him, “You hold the phone in your mouth to take this?” To which, Rahul replied saying, “@jimmyneesham skills mate,” followed by laughing emojis. Notably, Jimmy Neesham played the 2020 IPL season for Punjab Kings, under the captaincy of KL Rahul. However he has been picked by the Rajasthan Royals for the 2022 season.

Shaheen Afridi Reveals His Plans In T20 World Cup 2021 Clash Against India

Pakistan bowler Shaheen Afridi has reaveald that how he tackled the India batting trio of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli at the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Shaheen Afridi was the star performer in the 2021 Men’s T-20 World Cup. The youngster’s opening spell pushed India on the backfoot, Afridi’s new-ball spell proved to be the difference between the two teams as he first trapped Rohit lbw for a first-ball duck in the very first over and then bowled Rahul on three in his following over. And later dismissed Kohli on 57 to restrict the Men in Blue to 151/7 in 20 overs.

Meanwhile, Shaheen said he had a fixed plan going against Kohli while he tried to pitch it up to Rohit and Rahul. In a chat with Cricbuzz, Afridi spoke about the surreal experience from the match that earned him plenty of praise from the global cricketing fraternity.

“The end I was bowling from, the leg-side boundary was smaller, say about 60-65 meter only. If I had bowled straight and fast at him [Virat Kohli], he would have flicked me or pulled me for runs. So I wanted to mix things up and bowl a slow bouncer at him so that it would have been difficult for him to go leg-side.” Shaheen said.

“Luckily for me, the ball gripped and he got out. I admire Virat Kohli a lot, he’s one of the best around. Rohit, Rahul and Kohli are their mainstays and three of the best batsmen in the world. Kohli unki reedh ki haddi hai (Kohli is their spinal cord). And once you get them out, it gets difficult for the middle order. And if one of them bats deep, it gets easier for the batsman coming in later. Since I was getting some swing in that match – and the team anyway wants wickets from me early on – I was trying to pitch it up to Rohit and Rahul and I was able to get both of them out,” he added.

“It was a great day for me, to be honest. A lot of people watch India-Pakistan matches, including those who don’t even like cricket (laughs). When I look back on that win, I feel very proud. Yes, we couldn’t win the World Cup but we did well in that game against India and I’ll try to give my best even in the next World Cup,” said the Pakistan pacer.

India vs South Africa: Twitter Reacts After KL Rahul-Led Team Fails To Avoid 3-0 Whitewash

South Africa managed to win a thrilling final ODI to whitewash India in ODI series. However, the Men in Blue fell short by four runs, as the Proteas registered a 3-0 clean sweep, while the netizens were delightfully entertained.

Ater being put in to bat first, Quinton de Kock starred for South Africa scoring his sixth century in ODIs against India. The southpaw was in amazing touch on the day and didn’t let the Men in Blue dominate the proceedings especially in the middle overs. Rassie van der Dussen yet again looked solid in his approach. He played a perfect second fiddle to De Kock keeping the run-rate abreast. Yet, India came back well in the last 10 overs of the innings to restrict the hosts to 287.

In reply, Shikhar Dhawan (61 off 73) and Virat Kohli (65 off 84) played important knocks but India were in deep trouble at one point after losing quick wickets during middle overs. However, Deepak Chahar’s knock under pressure ignited hopes and kept India in the game till the time he was at the crease. Twitter has gone into a frenzy after India suffered a whitewash against the Proteas who were incredible under pressure.

KL Rahul comes up with an epic reply when asked if Virat Kohli energy as a captain was being missed ?

South Africa managed to win a thrilling final ODI to whitewash India 3-0 in the ODI series. India suffered a heartbreaking four-run loss against South Africa in the third and final ODI here at Newlands, Cape Town.

KL Rahul became only the 4th India captain after Kapil Dev, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli to be on the receiving end of a whitewash in an ODI series .This is India’s first series since Kohli’s resignation of capitancy from the 50-overs format. But the new era has not started on a positive note, with India losing the series.

However, Rohit Sharma is the captain of Team India, although he is not a part of this series due to injury. In his place, KL Rahul was given the captaincy for this series. Neither Rahul’s bat played in the series nor could he do anything special with the captaincy.

After the 2nd ODI in the post-match press conference KL Rahul was asked “whether the India team were missing Virat Kohli’s energy as skipper”? KL Rahul cleverly answered this question. “The energy has been great, it’s been tough on the body staying in the bubbles. We love challenges and we have come short in the first two games, we will look ahead to the third game and try and win that one,”

Yet, India failed to avoid a series whitewash against a South African team in transition despite Deepak Chahar’s scintillating 34-ball 54, losing the third ODI by four runs in Cape Town on Sunday.

Who can replace Virat Kohli as India’s Test Captain?

Ever since Kohli stepped down as the Test Captain, the hunt for red-ball captain began. While some believe that Rohit Sharma should lead India in all formats of Cricket, others opine that young talent such as KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant should lead India in Test Cricket.

With the induction of Rohit Sharma as India’s new captain in the two limited Overs format, the Test captaincy post now lies vacant with one of KL Rahul or Rohit Sharma likely to be handed that responsibility. However, India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah is more than just open to take that extra responsibility, and has expressed his willingness to lead Team India in the longest format of the game.

The first name in consideration to replace Kohli is Rohit, who has only grown in stature within Indian cricket across formats in the last one year. Appointed the new white-ball skipper, Rohit has undergone a major transformation as a Test cricketer. On the other hand Rahul is more of a long-term captaincy candidate than Rohit to replace Virat Kohli. Rahul also has had anotable revival to his Test match career with the bat.
And he can be Kohli’s potential replacement.

Ravichandran Ashwin could also be an option to replace Kohli at the helm. The veteran off-spinner is one of the greats of the modern game. And he Ashwin has prior experience of captaincy a team in the IPL as well. Notably
Jasprit Bumrah, right-arm pacer may also be in consideration for Test captaincy. But there are two major issues: one is tactical and the second is physical. If India do appoint Bumrah as their Test captain, they will have to do away with their policy of him skipping home Tests and play him every game, making injuries more likely.

South Africa vs India, 1st ODI : Probable XI

After a heartbreaking loss against South Africa in red-ball cricket both teams face-off in the three-match One-Day International series. KL Rahul will lead the Indian team in absence of injured Rohit Sharma. Besides, Jasprit Bumrah has been named vice captain.

India and South Africa will play a three-match ODI series starting from 19th January. The first match will be played at Boland Park, Paarl. However, Team India have already suffered two huge blows from the squad standpoint. Washington Sundar couldn’t board the flight as he was tested position ahead of the tour. Whereas Mohammed Siraj suffered an injury in the second Test, and he is unlikely to recover. Jayant Yadav and Navdeep Saini have been announced as their replacements.

It will be interesting to see what sort of combination team India plays against South Africa after the return of opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan. There is a chance that India might hand all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer ODI debut as well. As far as opening combination is concerned, Rahul and Dhawan will open with Virat Kohli at number three. Shreyas Iyer and Surya Kumar Yadav will bat at four and five respectively followed by wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant.

India has five bowling options in the form of Thakur, Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar/Siraj, Chahal and Bumrah. However, India will have to decide between Iyer and Ravi Ashwin while Yuzvendra Chahal is set to feature as prime spinner. Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar will lead the bowling attack. It could be a toss up between Deepak Chahar and Shardul for the third seamer option.
