Sreesanth’s emotional celebration after getting his first wicket in 9 years

Former India fast bowler S. Sreesanth while playing for his state team took his first wicket after a gap of nine years for his state team in the Ranji Trophy. Sreesanth faced a life ban from professional cricket in 2013 after getting involved in a spot-fixing scandal during his stint with Rajasthan Royals. However, his ban was reduced to seven years and he returned to professional cricket in September 2020.

While playing against Meghalaya in the ongoing first-class season, Kerala bowler Sreesanth dismissed Aryan Bora to register his first Ranji Trophy wicket in 9 years. He was part of the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 Cricket World Cup squads which won the competition. His last appearance in international cricket came in 2011. However
he was keen on returning to professional cricket after his life ban got reduced to seven years in August of 2019. The paceman had said that he was ready to give it his all and believed he had another five to seven years of cricket left in him.

The 19-year-old reached the milestone in just 133 balls. Among India’s last 5 U-19 World Cup captains the Delhi batsman Dhull is the 4th India U-19 captain to smash a century on his first-class debut game since Prithvi Shaw’s knock for Delhi in 2016. Delhi were reduced to 7/2 while Dhull batted brilliantly in the match and he stood strong on one end. He added an amazing half-century partnership with Nitish and completed his half-century off 57 balls. Yash Dhull eventually got out for 113 in 150 deliveries after getting trapped LBW to Mohammed in the 50th over of the match.

Dhull’s century came on the back of his stellar form in the U-19 World Cup, The value of Dhull’s performance continues to climb. In the Under-19 World Cup, he was unstoppable, hitting 229 runs in four games, including a century against Australia in the semi-final. His efforts were rewarded with an IPL contract in the mega-auction, with Delhi Capitals selecting him for 50 lakh.

Meanwhile, Dhull aims to play for India in less than two years time. “I have hardly slept the last few days but it is not something I can complain about. What I have done till now is done, I need to focus on what lies in the immediate future,” Dhull was said.

Wriddhiman Saha opts out of Bengal’s Ranji campaign

Senior wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha has opted out of Bengal’s Ranji Trophy 2022 edition. Saha has decided to withdraw himself from Bengal’s Ranji Trophy squad after he will not be picked for India’s two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, starting in Mohali on March 4.

The inclusion of senior wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha not picked for the Sri Lanka Test as Rishabh Pant has been considered as a future leader of the team. Also, KS Bharat displayed great glove work in the Kanpur Test against New Zealand, that’s why the wicket-keeper batsman not considered as a new backup option alongside Pant in India’s upcoming red-ball matches.

“Wriddhiman has been categorically told by influential people in the team management that they want to move on and create some new back-ups alongside Rishabh Pant,” a senior BCCI source said

“He was explained that he won’t be picked for the Sri Lanka Tests as it’s time that Kona gets his share of exposure with the senior team. May be that’s the reason, Wriddhiman had informed Cricket Association of Bengal president Abhishek Dalmiya and joint secretary Snehasish Ganguly that he would not play Ranji Trophy this season for ‘personal reasons. That’s why the selectors didn’t pick him as he was unavailable for selection,” the source added.

Saha has played 40 Tests and scored 1353 runs with three hundreds and an average of less than 30 which became his undoing. He however had 104 dismissals behind stumps, 92 catches and 12 stumpings.

Hardik Pandya ignores Sourav Ganguly’s key advice

All-rounder Hardik Pandya will skip the upcoming season of the Ranji Trophy . Pandya is looking to get back his fitness first. He wants to focus on his India comeback in white-ball cricket. Notably, Pandya ignored BCCI president Sourav Ganguly’s key comeback advice .

In interview to PTI last week, BCCI President Saurav Ganguly had said he expected to see the all-rounder play in the Ranji Trophy. “Hardik was injured and a break was given to him to completely recover, so that he can continue to serve Indian cricket for a long period of time. I believe I will see him play some Ranji Trophy to start with. I expect him to bowl a lot more overs and his body will get stronger,” Ganguly said.

However, on Monday, Baroda Cricket Association revealed their 20-member squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. Kedar Devdhar was named as the captain. Hardik’s name wasn’t part of the list. Hardik Pandya received a lot of flak for not bowling during India’s dismal T20 World Cup campaign, even he making himself unavailable for national selection due to back injury and further rehabilitation.

Pandya has not played red ball cricket since December 2018 and has often admitted that injuries have put a spanner on his prospects in the longest format of the game. However he will return to competitive cricket in the IPL, where he is set to make his maiden appearance as a full-time captain with the CVC-owned Ahmedabad franchise.

Jay Shah has made it clear that it will be one of the shortest first-class seasons in which most of the team will get to play just three matches. This means that the team that is out of the group league stage will not get much benefit from the increased match fee.

Besides the playing conditions, Shah informed that the detailed match schedule will “soon” be communicated along with COVID-19 guidelines. The BCCI has confirmed that the teams will have to enter their respective bio secure hub on February 10 and the first phase of the tournament will be ove
