India wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha on Saturday night shared a screenshot of threatening messages he received from a journalist. In the screenshot of the chat shared by Saha, the journalist can be seen threatening the Indian cricketer.
This incident was happened after Saha was dropped from the Indian team for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. On Saturday night Saha shared the screenshot of the messages he received from the journalist. “After all of my contributions to Indian cricket..this is what I face from a so called “Respected” journalist! This is where the journalism has gone,” Saha tweeted. Wriddhiman Saha has received support from many players after he shared the screenshot.
Virender Sehwag was among the first to come out in support of Saha, Sehwag said, “Extremely sad. Such sense of entitlement, neither is he respected nor a journalist, just chamchagiri. With you Wriddhi.”
Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri also has reacted to the contrtweeted. “Shocking a player being threatened by a journo. Blatant position abuse. Something that’s happening too frequently with #TeamIndia. Time for the BCCI PREZ to dive in. Find out who the person is in the interest of every cricketer. This is serious coming from ultimate team man WS,” Shastri tweeted.
Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh and ex-pacer RP Singh have also lashed out at the journalist after Saha shared the ‘threat’ messages. Harbhajan has urged the BCCI to protect Indian players in the aftermath of the controversy.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India is calling for a “thorough investigation” on the matter to find out the culprit. “Saha is a contracted cricketer of the BCCI. The onus is on the Board to not let its own player down. That aside, if there is any kind of a nexus at work here, one has to look into it,” say officials tracking these developments. BCCI is also keen to know if any other cricketer has gone through such a crisis.
