The Board of Control for Cricket in India is calling for a “thorough investigation” on the matter to find out the culprit. “Saha is a contracted cricketer of the BCCI. The onus is on the Board to not let its own player down. That aside, if there is any kind of a nexus at work here, one has to look into it,” say officials tracking these developments. BCCI is also keen to know if any other cricketer has gone through such a crisis.

Kohli was unhappy with Anil Kumble for ‘not standing up for players’ : Former BCCI administrator

Former manager of the Indian cricket team, Ratnakar Shetty has opened up on the Kumble-Kohli relationship. In 2017, Kumble stepped down in a dramatic turn of events citing untenable relationship with Kohli.

Shetty reveals that Virat Kohli was unhappy with Kumble as the latter did not stand up for his players. Remember, this was brewing for over a month and things hit the roof when India lost against Pakistan in the 2017 Champions Trophy final. In his new book “On Board: Test.Trial.Triumph. My years in BCCI” Shetty revealed how things unfolded leading up to Kumble’s resignation.

Shetty stated that there were some people who did not want Kumble to continue in the role of head coach of the side. Shetty made it clear that Kohli and Kumble were not on the same page, and the skipper had the upper hand in this matter.

“The events leading up to the resignation of Anil Kumble as coach of the men’s team after the ICC Champions Trophy final in June 2017 showcased the murkiness that had steadily crept into the corridors of the Cricket Centre,” Shetty was quoted as writing in his book. “It was obvious that some people did not want Anil to continue as coach. The captain and coach did not appear to be on the same wavelength and it seemed that the captain had the upper hand.” Shetty said.

“I learnt later about a meeting that took place in London before the final of the Champions Trophy, which we lost to Pakistan. This meeting was attended by Virat, Anil, Johri, Amitabh Choudhary and Dr Sridhar. Apparently, Virat was not happy with Anil ‘for not standing up for the players and creating a tense atmosphere in the dressing room’, among other things,” Shetty added.

His three-year-term as BCCI chief coming to an end later this year around September-October, the former India captain stated that he is not yet in a position to say what legacy he will leave behind.

“What’s my legacy? Well, I won’t be able to tell it now. Let’s see what happens. It is up to you all to judge my legacy, it is what it is. But it has been under tough circumstances due to Covid-19 over the last two years. The pandemic has wreaked havoc all over the world and we are fortunate that we could still manage to get a majority of cricket done,” Ganguly told Sporstar.

Ganguly also said that his tenure has taken place in tough circumstances due to the Covid-19 pandemic, “I don’t think it’s more challenging. I won’t be able to tell anything about the legacy. Let’s see what happens. It is for the people to judge me. But the situation has been tough due to COVID-19 over the last two years. We are fortunate enough that we could still manage to get a majority of cricket done.” Ganguly added.

BCCI planning to host a day-night Test in Bengaluru against Sri Lanka

The The Board of Control for Cricket in India is reportedly planning to host a pink-ball Test match in the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. India have only hosted two pink-ball Test matches at home against Bangladesh in Kolkata and against England in Ahmedabad.

Sri Lanka  is scheduled to tour India for two Test matches and three T20Is. The Test series, is set to commence on March 25 in Bengaluru while the second and final game of the series will be played in Mohali. As per report in TOI, BCCI is planning to host the pink-ball Test in Bengaluru as Mohali is unlikely to get hosting rights of the day-night Test as there are chances to dew being a crucial factor.

“There is a chance that the first two T20Is to start the tour will be played in Dharamshala before the series moves to Mohali for the third T20I and the first Test. Lucknow may miss out on hosting a T20I. Having the pink ball Test in Mohali is difficult since dew is expected to play a big role. However, BCCI is still monitoring the Covid-19 situation in the country. A final call to tweak the schedule will be taken soon,” BCCI source said.

However, Sri Lanka Cricket wants BCCI to tweak the schedule and hosts the T20I series ahead of the Test match to make it convenient for the players to shift from one bubble to another. “Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has requested BCCI to play the T20I series first instead of the Test matches. The Sri Lankan team will be playing a T20I series against Australia before coming to India. It will be convenient for them to send a team which will be already in a bubble,” a BCCI official said.

The format has been tweaked and there will be eight groups of four teams each with the plate group comprising six teams. Teams which fail to advance to the next stage will end up playing only three games compared to five in the original format, effectively impacting the players’ match fee.

Fans React to news of Ganguly-Shah’BCCI Exit

Kohli has stunned everyone with his announcement to step down as India’s Test Captain. Under his time as captain, India played 68 Tests, winning 40, losing 17, and drawing 11 matches, with a win percentage of 58.82 while registering memorable wins in overseas and home conditions.

Now etizens are blaming the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and its president Sourav Ganguly for ‘politics’ in the Indian cricket board which forced the batter to make the shocking decision. Sourav Ganguly faced considerable criticism with an overwhelming majority of fans blaming him and BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.

However, the three-year term of Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah, the BCCI president, and secretary, will end in September 2022. They can seek another term as per the rules and regulations of the board. While India have achieved much success in the bilateral series, few setbacks have been for the team.

Their other biggest achievement is to bring Rahul Dravid on board first as head of the National Cricket Academy and then as a head coach of the Indian team. While, some fans described it as the best news to come out of Indian cricket in a short time, others feared that the pair had already done enough damage to Indian Cricket.
