Real reason, why Mumbai Indian Not Retaining Hardik Pandya

Mumbai Indians are the most successful franchise in the history of the Indian Premier League. This is because they have one of the most strong core teams.

Hardik Pandya was a part of the Mumbai Indians since his debut in the IPL in 2015. He carries flair and swagger and rightly translates it into his style of play. His ability to soak in pressure and propel his team out of dicey situations established him as a dependable player for the Mumbai Indians. Hardik Pandya was part of 4 title-winning campaigns of Mumbai Indians, ever since the 2015 edition.  However Mumbai Indians not retained him for upcoming IPL season.

The 29-year-old all-rounder is not in favour of the Indian cricket team because of his injury. He has missed a major part of international cricket in the last two seasons because of injuries. But, Hardik is a proven match-winner. However,  the reports suggest Mumbai Indians were thinking about retaining Hardik Pandya, but they changed their plans as the all-rounder has not been bowling at all, either in international cricket or in the IPL in the recent past.

Hardik played 12 games in the 2021 season but scored just 127 runs at an average of 14.11 and hasn’t bowled a single ball in the last two seasons. His brother Krunal too has struggled, scoring just 143 runs in 13 matches at an average of 14.3 while taking just five wickets in the 2021 season

Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane And Hardik Pandya Get Demoted In BCCI Central Contracts

BCCI has finalised the latest Central Contracts list for India players for the year 2022. Meanwhile, Cheteshwar Pujara and former Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane, who have been axed for the Sri Lanka Test series, were on Wednesday downgraded in the latest central contracts list of the BCCI that was ratified by the Board’s Apex Council.

The BCCI has four categories — A+ which has annual remuneration of Rs 7 crore while A, B and C categories are valued at Rs 5 crore, Rs 3 crore and Rs 1 crore respectively. Although , Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Hardik Pandya and Wriddhiman Saha have been downgraded in the latest BCCI central contracts. However, the list is updated each year based on the performance of the cricketers.

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah retained in the as A+ grade. However, Pujara, Rahane and Ishant Sharma, who were in Grade A until last year, are now in Grade B. This comes after the trio were dropped for the Test series against Sri Lanka, which begins in Mohali on Friday.  Category A has five players including Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Mohammed Shami.

Hardik Pandya, who has not played any international cricket since the T20 World Cup in UAE last year, has been demoted to Group C, along with Shikhar Dhawan. While, Wriddhiman Saha, who has been dropped from the Test team, will still be richer by Rs 1 crore after being demoted from group B to C.

Hardik Pandya ignores Sourav Ganguly’s key advice

All-rounder Hardik Pandya will skip the upcoming season of the Ranji Trophy . Pandya is looking to get back his fitness first. He wants to focus on his India comeback in white-ball cricket. Notably, Pandya ignored BCCI president Sourav Ganguly’s key comeback advice .

In interview to PTI last week, BCCI President Saurav Ganguly had said he expected to see the all-rounder play in the Ranji Trophy. “Hardik was injured and a break was given to him to completely recover, so that he can continue to serve Indian cricket for a long period of time. I believe I will see him play some Ranji Trophy to start with. I expect him to bowl a lot more overs and his body will get stronger,” Ganguly said.

However, on Monday, Baroda Cricket Association revealed their 20-member squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. Kedar Devdhar was named as the captain. Hardik’s name wasn’t part of the list. Hardik Pandya received a lot of flak for not bowling during India’s dismal T20 World Cup campaign, even he making himself unavailable for national selection due to back injury and further rehabilitation.

Pandya has not played red ball cricket since December 2018 and has often admitted that injuries have put a spanner on his prospects in the longest format of the game. However he will return to competitive cricket in the IPL, where he is set to make his maiden appearance as a full-time captain with the CVC-owned Ahmedabad franchise.

Venkatesh Iyer To Be Groomed As A Long-Term Replacement For Hardik Pandya In Team India

In the first ODI at Paarl, India took the field with six bowling options including debutant Venkatesh Iyer, who made his maiden international appearance in a T20I against New Zealand in November. However, Rahul didn’t hand the bowler a single over throughout the match as five bowlers – Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, and Yuzvendra Chahal bowled all fifty overs in the game.

After making his T20I debut against New Zealand in November and a memorable campaign for Madhya Pradesh in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy, Iyer was given a call-up to the ODI squad for the South Africa series. However he has played in four games for India but has only bowled 18 deliveries since his debut in November 2021. Despite fewer opportunities to bowl, he has managed to register a dismissal.

With South Africa stitching a 200-plus-run partnership around Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen, Iyer was not given the ball despite India’s bowlers not tasting any success. Although in the press conference, India batter Shikhar Dhawan explained why Venkatesh wasn’t asked to bowl, saying that the spinner bowled well but numbers throw up a contrasting story. Yuzvendra Chahal and R Ashwin combined to pick just 1 wicket for 106 runs. The decision by Rahul was met with criticism from former Indian cricketers Gautam Gambhir and Aakash Chopra, who wondered whether the team management sees Iyer as an all-rounder.

However, To put things into further context, he was picked to be a batter who could bowl medium pace – the rarest of rare combinations on the Indian circuit. With Hardik Pandya’s bowling fitness continuing to be an issue, the Indian team management called upon Iyer in a bid to groom him for a similar role.

Selectors and management have shown faith in Venkatesh Iyer by fast-tracking him into the national team setup. But the fact remains that they will never know how ready he is for international cricket unless he is thrown into the deep end of the pool.
