In response, Virat Kohli thanked Dravid and BCCI for their support. He said “It is a special moment for me. My wife is here and so is my brother. Everyone is very proud. It is indeed a team game and it couldn’t have been possible without you. Thanks to the BCCI as well. In present day cricket, with the amount we play with three formats and an IPL, the one takeaway the next generation can take from me is that I played 100 games in the purest format”.

Meanwhile, several former cricketers have congratulated Kohli for achieving the feat. However, he can reach another landmark by scoring a century in his 100th Test. Notably, Virat Kohli made his test debut against West Indies in 2011. However, young Kohli couldn’t perform as his reputation suggests he might have, scoring 19 runs in his first test match. However, over a period of 11 years, Virat Kohli will be playing his 100th test which is a testament to his excellence in the format. The Delhi-based cricketer has scored 7962 runs in 99 Tests with an average of 50.39.

Former Indian Captain Sunil Gavaskar warns Rohit Sharma, coach Rahul Dravid, ahead of T20 World Cup

India defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets in the third T20 International to make a 3-0 clean sweep in the three-match series on Saturday. Team India recorded 11 consecutive victories in this format.

However,  former captain Sunil Gavaskar has given a warning to coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma. The former player said that Indian bowlers gave away runs at a high economy rate in the final five overs. In a conversation with Star Sports Sunil Gavaskar said that India need to address this issue and cannot afford to concede runs heavily often. He also also praised Sri Lanka team for their hitting ability, especially in the death overs.

The legendary batsman has warned India ahead of the T20 World Cup in mind. Harshal Patel was smashed for 42 runs in two overs while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah conceded 16 and 14 runs respectively as India gave away 78 runs in the death overs.

“It is not a sign of worry but it is something they have got to look at because they cannot afford to have it regularly. One match, it happens that is the nature of the format. There might be partnerships in the last 5-6 overs where you will get 80-90 runs like we saw today,” Gavaskar said in a conversation.

“Shanaka was magnificent today. Even Nissanka, look at that shot against Bumrah, of all the people. It isn’t easy to hit against Bumrah. It is an issue that India cannot afford to sweep under the carpet. They have to worry about the death-over bowlers. Who should be bowling the first 10 and the last 8? These are issues that India need to think about,” Gavaskar added.

‘Grip Is Too Wide Jam’: Harbhajan Singh gives bowling advice to Rahul Dravid

Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh has reacted to his ex-teammate and India’s current head coach Rahul Dravid’s bowling pictures.  Rahul Dravid bowled spin in the nets ahead of the second ODI at Ahmedabad.

The BCCI on Monday shared two photos of head coach Rahul Dravid bowling spin in the Team India nets ahead of the second one-day international against West Indies. BCCI  shared the images and captioned the post: “Celebrating the 23rd anniversary of @anilkumble1074’s 10-74.” Harbhajan retweeted the BCCI post.

Replying to BCCI’s tweet, the former India off-spinner pointed out that Dravid’s grip with the ball is too much wide and also mentioned that he won’t be able to get much spin from the ball. ‘Grip is too wide jam .. won’t be able to spin as much you like,’ said Harbhajan.

Rahul Dravid was bowling at the nets to mark the 23rd anniversary of Anil Kumble’s 10-wicket haul, which he claimed in an India-Pakistan Test match at New Delhi, India in 1999. Only three cricketers have been able to achieve this ridiculous feat in cricket history; Jim Laker, Kumble and Ajaz Patel. England’s Laker was the first to take wickets in an innings, by doing so against Australia in 1956. After Kumble, Ajaz did the same last year, when he took all 10 wickets in an innings vs India in Mumbai. Also, all three bowlers who have achieved this feat are spinners.

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and coach Rahul Dravid share special message as India plays its 1000th ODI

India will play their 1000th at the Narendra Modi stadium against West Indies on Sunday. Team India had played their 500th match in 2002 and two decades later, the side has now reached the milestone of playing 1,000 ODIs.

India skipper Rohit Sharma has said that it will be a privilege for him to lead the Men-in-Blue as they take the field to play their 1,000th ODI. On the special occasion, skipper Rohit, former captain Virat Kohli and coach Rahul Dravid shared a message in a video posted by the BCCI on Sunday.

“It will be a historic moment as we play the 1000th ODI. I would like to congratulate all the players who have taken part in this long journey. It is an honour for me to lead the side in that game, it will be a privilege to lead the boys. Our journey has been fantastic over the years. So many players have tried to put their best foot forward, we will also try to keep raising the bar,” said Rohit Sharma.

Kohli, meanwhile, reflected on the talent India has had over the years and expressed his pride at having played a part in Indian ODI history. “It has gone from strength to strength. We had a couple of transitions that went very well which shows you the bench strength and kind of talent we had in this country. I’m proud of having had such a long career with Indian cricket team and been part of so many games which have eventually brought us to the landmark of 1000 ODIs. It’s a big number and a testimony to how many matches played over the year,” said the former India captain.

Head coach Dravid said that India didn’t play a lot of ODIs but the 1983 World cup win changed a lot of things.” One-day cricket became very popular with the fans in the 90s and we started to play a lot of ODIs since which reflects on our success in the World Cups of 1983 and 2011. The number of games that India play has increased manifold. The game has grown in this country and it has become one of the top format,” Dravid said

Rahul Dravid : We missed guys who help balance the squad

Team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid has a message for Team India’s non-performers in the just-concluded ODI series in South Africa, where the Proteas hammered them 3-0.  They would be given a consistent run in the XI, but at the same time, they are expected to deliver for the team.

Rahul Dravid was honest in his assessment of the series loss admitting that the team lacked balance due to injuries to certain players. While Dravid didn’t single out missing players, he was certainly talking about the likes of Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja who bat at six and seven lending balance to the side. But in this series, India’s middle-order was a huge concern and to add to it, there was no solid finisher as well.

“This series has been a good eye-opener for us,” coach Rahul Dravid said of his first ODI assignment. “We certainly could do better with the batting in the middle overs. It is an opportunity to reflect and learn. The team has not played a lot of one-day cricket since the last World Cup. We need to look to keep improving. ” Dravid said.

Dravid agreed that someone like Shreyas needs to put his hand up and perform considering the immense competition for slots in the middle order. “Whether you bat at Nos. 4, 5 or 6, you’ve got to know what the team’s requirements are. Shreyas has gone in pretty early in all three games and he has had enough time out there in the middle,”.

“We know guys have done well and we would like to back them as much as possible. Sometimes, they will have good tours and sometimes, it won’t be possible. That’s just the way it is. Obviously, there tends to be a lot of competition with people pushing for places and it’s not easy in that kind of a situation,” Dravid added.
