Vellaswamy Vanitha, announces retirement from all forms of cricket 

India women’s team batter VR Vanitha on Monday announced retirement from all forms of the game at the age of 31 She represented the country in six women’s ODIs and 16 T20Is from 2014 to 2016.

“19 years ago, when I started playing cricket, I was just a little girl who loved sport. Even to this day, my love for cricket remains the same. What’s changing is direction. My heart says continue playing, my body says stop and I’ve decided to listen to the latter. Time is ripe to hang my boots. I hereby announce my retirement from all forms of cricket. It’s been a journey of struggles, joy, heartbreak, learning and personal milestones,” wrote Vanitha.

“While there are a few regrets, I’m grateful for the opportunities I got, especially to represent India. Along the way, there have been many people I want to thank, each and everyone who has supported me through these years -My parents and siblings who have been a rock by my side, Irian sir who guided me, honed my skills in my early years, Naz bhai who spent several hours at nets watching over me,” Vanitha added.

Vanitha made her international debut in an ODI against Sri Lanka in January 2014. She went on to represent India in six ODIs and 16 T20Is, scoring 85 and 216 runs, averaging 17 and 14.40 respectively. Vanitha also thanked the two state associations Karnataka and Bengal that she represented in domestic cricket. During the 2021-22 domestic season, Vanitha guided Bengal to the semi-finals of the Women’s Senior One-Day Trophy, scoring 225 runs with knocks of 61 against Andhra and a 71-ball 107 against Hyderabad.

The former opener Wasim Jaffer now enjoys a cult following on social media as he keeps the world updated with his hilarious tweets on cricket. He has emerged as a popular cricket celebrity who shares a number of cheeky and funny tweets.

Jaffer, who is known for his active social media presence had to come across a unique way of responding to a fan in the form of a meme. A fan took to Twitter and mentioned that he is on anhydrous fasting until Wasim Jaffer replies. He wrote, “Day 21 – not drinking water untill Wasim Jaffer replies”.

Meanwhile, replying to the fan, Wasim Jaffer shared a meme in which the veteran actor, Shivaji Satam is offering some water to a lady.

Earlier, Wasim Jaffer said that the Kolkata Knight Riders’ all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer is ahead of Hardik Pandya for the T20 World Cup consideration at this moment. After this series, I feel Iyer is a little bit ahead because you don’t know Hardik Pandya whether he’s bowling now or how fit he is. Obviously how the IPL goes for Hardik Panya will play a very key role but at this point of time, Venkatesh Iyer is ahead of Hardik Pandya,” Jaffer said on ESPNcricinfo.

“I am surprised with how good he’s playing as a No. 6 batter. We have seen him as an opener but for him to come out and get adapted so well at No. 6 and finish games is outstanding. Plus, the way he’s bowled as well, got a couple of important wickets. He definitely gives [India] an edge going into the World Cup,” Jaffer said.

Big blow for CSK, Deepak Chahar likely to miss few matches of upcoming IPL

Indian fast bowler Deepak Chahar suffered a pull to his right hamstring while bowling in the third and final T20I match against the West Indies on February 20. And he was rendered doubtful for the Sri Lanka series, starting Thursday. 

Notably the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League is all set to start on March 26 and Deepak Chahar could also be a doubtful starter for the IPL where Chennai Super Kings forked out a massive Rs 14 crore at the auction to retain his services. He was set to be their primary pacer in the upcoming season. If it is a grade one tear Chahar will be unavailable for a few matches of IPL 2022 at the beginning. It will be a big blow for the defending champions.

The the third and final match of the T20 series against West Indies on 20th February. Deepak Chahar looked somewhat upset on the last ball of the third over. He was coming to bowl, but he suddenly stopped and bent down. And he was seen in some injury. He didn’t even complete the over. Venkatesh Iyer was called to bowl the last ball of the over.

However, still no update has been given by the BCCI or the Indian Cricket Management regarding Deepak’s injury. While Deepak Chahar will have to go straight to Bangalore-based national Cricket Academy for recovery and rehabilitation. In such a situation, his exclusion from the T20 series against Sri Lanka is considered doubtful.

PSL 2022: Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf slaps teammate Kamran Ghulam During the match

The ongoing Pakistan Super League always has been in the news for off the field controversial incidents along with some brilliant on-field action as well. During the Pakistan Super League match between Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi, Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf slapped his teammate Kamran Ghulam.

The incident happened in the second over of the game when a short ball from Haris Rauf took the top edge off the bat of Peshawar batsman Mohammed Haris . Haris Rauf dismissed Mohammad Haris when Fawad Ahmed took a catch on the fine leg boundary. Meanwhile, Lahore Qalandars bowler Haris Rauf loses his cool as he slapped his team-mate Kamran Ghulam while celebrating his wicket.

Earlier, Ghulam had dropped Peshawar Zalmi’s Hazratullah Zazai catch when he attempted to work Haris Rauf’s full delivery away on the leg side and Rauf looked frustrated with the fielder. While, on the penultimate delivery of the very same over, Fawad Ahmed took a fine catch to send back Mohammad Haris back cheaply. However, Ghulam was seen smiling after getting hit but Rauf’s expressions were not the same.

Ghulam bounced back in the game as he executed a stunning run-out in the 17th over when he got the better of opposition skipper Wahab Riaz. Meanwhile, Qalandars have made their best ever finish in a PSL group stage and now have the cushion of an extra game in the playoffs. Qalandars kick-off the playoffs with a mouth-watering Qualifiers clash with the Sultans on Wednesday.

Wriddhiman Saha shared a screenshot showing a journalist threatening him

India wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha on Saturday night shared a screenshot of threatening messages he received from a journalist. In the screenshot of the chat shared by Saha, the journalist can be seen threatening the Indian cricketer.

This incident was happened after Saha was dropped from the Indian team for the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.  On Saturday night Saha shared the screenshot of the messages he received from the journalist. “After all of my contributions to Indian cricket..this is what I face from a so called “Respected” journalist! This is where the journalism has gone,” Saha tweeted. Wriddhiman Saha has received support from many players after he shared the screenshot.

Virender Sehwag was among the first to come out in support of Saha, Sehwag said, “Extremely sad. Such sense of entitlement, neither is he respected nor a journalist, just chamchagiri. With you Wriddhi.”

Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri also has reacted to the contrtweeted. “Shocking a player being threatened by a journo. Blatant position abuse. Something that’s happening too frequently with #TeamIndia. Time for the BCCI PREZ to dive in. Find out who the person is in the interest of every cricketer. This is serious coming from ultimate team man WS,” Shastri tweeted.

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh and ex-pacer RP Singh have also lashed out at the journalist after Saha shared the ‘threat’ messages. Harbhajan has urged the BCCI to protect Indian players in the aftermath of the controversy. 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India is calling for a “thorough investigation” on the matter to find out the culprit. “Saha is a contracted cricketer of the BCCI. The onus is on the Board to not let its own player down. That aside, if there is any kind of a nexus at work here, one has to look into it,” say officials tracking these developments. BCCI is also keen to know if any other cricketer has gone through such a crisis.

IND vs WI T20: Suryakumar Yadav Hits an Unbelievable Six in the Final T20 Against West Indies

India defeated West Indies by 17 runs in third and final T20I to complete a 3-0 series whitewash on Sunday. Rohit Sharma led the Indian cricket team won the match easily by 17 runs.

Earlier, after loosing the toss India posted 184 runs for 5 wickets. Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad gone for a duck. However, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer hit a flurry of boundaries to tilt the momentum back. The duo then brought up their impressive 50-run stand in the 8th over. Rohit Sharma came to bat lower down the order but failed to get amongst the runs. While Suryakumar Yadav and Venkatesh Iyer added 91 runs in last five overs.

Suryakumar Yadav came to bat at no 5. The 31-year-old batsman looked unstoppable and he completed the half-century landmark off 27 balls. He smashed seven sixes and one boundary in an exceptional display of power-hitting before getting out for his career-best T20 score in the final delivery. It was an excellent finish in the last five overs.

Venkatesh Iyer played a good hand too with a 19 ball-35 with two sixes and four fours to take India to 184/5. Overall, Suryakumar Yadav managed to score 65 runs off 31 balls, He batted at a sensational strike rate of 216.67. Among his big hits was a six that saw him hit a six over fine leg with a slight flick of the wrists.

Chasing a target of 185, West Indies were restricted to a total of 167 for 9 wickets. Wicket-keeper batter Nicholas Pooran continued his fine form slamming a third successive fifty but it was not enough for them. For India, Shardul Thakur, Harshal Patel, Venkatesh Iyer and Deepak Chahar took two wickets each.

PSL 2022: Chris Gayle Says He Will Be The New Head Coach Of Karachi Kings

Universe Boss’ Chris Gayel shares a hilarious tweet on Saturday. The left-handed batsman Gayle wrote that he will be the head coach of Karachi Kings in the upcoming season of Pakistan Super League.

Karachi Kings finally got their first win in the ongoing 2022 PSL after they defeated Lahore Qalandars by 22 runs on Friday. Karachi Kings haven’t been at their imperious best in the ongoing season of the PSL. Babar Azam, the captain of Karachi Kings also responded to the disappointing performance in the ongoing season of the PSL. Notably Universe Boss Gayle has 1899 runs in 79 T20Is. He has scored a total of 14, 321 runs in his T20 career with the help of 22 centuries in 445 innings. His best score is 175 runs in 66 balls, which is a world record. He played this innings for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2013. Gayle has not played a Test match since 2014, while he played his last ODI match in the year 2019. One of the world’s explosive batsmen, Gayle has 7214 runs in 103 Test matches while he has scored 10480 runs in 301 One Day Internationals. He is a former West Indies captain too.

Faulkner leaves league after accusing PCB of not honouring his contract, PCB board bans him for life

Australia cricketer James Faulkner Faulkner, who played for the Quetta Gladiators, announced that he was withdrawn from the ongoing Pakistan Super League on Saturday. Faulkner he accused the PCB and PSL management of telling him lies and treating his disgracefully.

The PCB and Quetta Gladiators, however, said that Faulkner has been paid his money for playing in the league as per his contract and added that the Australian will not be picked for the T20 tournament in the future. Faulkner played six matches for the Gladiators this season, he had also apologised to the Pakistan cricket fans for withdrawing from the competition. “I apologise to the Pakistan cricket fans. But unfortunately, I’ve had to withdraw from the last two matches and leave the PSL due to the PCB not honouring my contractual agreements/payments,” Faulkner said on Twitter.

In another tweet, Faulkner said that he wanted to get international cricket back in Pakistan, adding that the treatment he has received from the PCB and the PSL “has been a disgrace”.

“It hurts to leave as I wanted to help get international cricket back in Pakistan as there is so much young talent and the fans are amazing. But the treatment I have received has been a disgrace from PCB and PSL. I’m sure you all understand my position.” Faulkner added.

In response, the PCB said: “The PCB and Quetta Gladiators have regretfully taken note of Mr James Faulkner’s false and misleading accusations and will shortly be released a detailed statement on the matter.”

In another statement the PCB has termed Faulkner’s allegations as baseless and handed him a life ban from the competition. “In the seven years of the HBL Pakistan Super League, no player has ever complained about the non-fulfillment of the PCB’s contractual obligations,” the board said in a statement.

IND vs WI T20: India beat West Indies by 8 runs to win series

India beat West Indies in the second match of the three-game T20I series and with this victory Rohit Sharma’s side also managed to win the T20I series after a clean sweep in the ODI series. 

West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl first. While India got to a bad start as Ishan Kishan failed to make the mark as an opener, Rohit departed for 19 in 18 balls after a fine partnership with Kohli . Virat Kohli, batted brilliantly and scored 52 runs off 41 balls, including 7 fours and 1 six. Although, after losing Kohli, the hosts were struggling at 106/4 in 13.4 overs before Rishabh Pant and  
Venkatesh Iyar joined hands to take their team out of trouble.

The pair formed a crucial stand of 76 runs. Pant smashed a brilliant unbeaten knock 52 off 28 balls, including seven fours and a maximum, while Iyer made 33 from 18 deliveries. Chasing the target West Indies  openers Kyle Mayers and Brandon King were off to a decent start and they added 34 runs before the former was dismissed by leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in the 1st ball of the 6th over.

In the end, Rovman Powell and Nicholas Pooran added sensational 100 runs together but it was not enough to win the match. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Harshal Patel kept their calm in the last two overs of West Indies innings and helped India seal the T20I series against the West Indies.

India vs West Indies T20 : Twitter reacts as Pant hits Dhoni helicopter shot

Venkatesh Iyer smashed the West Indian bowlers during the second T20 international against the West Indies at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Friday.

The 1st inning of the 2nd T20I between India and the West Indies Ishan Kishan failed to make the mark as an opener, Rohit departed for 19 in 18 balls after a fine partnership with Kohli .Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli impressed everyone with their blistering knocks. Although Venkatesh Iyer scored 33 runs from just 18 balls, with the help of four strokes to the boundary and one over it.

One of his shots to the boundary, in the second ball of the 16th over from Sheldon Cottrell, Venkatesh Iyer flicked him over the fine leg boundary for a four. The left-arm pacer bowler the ball down the leg side. Iyer used the pace of the delivery and hit over the fine leg boundary. Venkatesh just flicked it to send the ball to the boundary ropes. The ball went down to the Indian dugout in a jiffy with the Indian players getting out of their seats and ducking for cover  as some even fell to the ground trying to avoid being hit.

Iyer was finally dismissed on 33 off 18 balls hitting four boundaries and a six. He added a 76-run stand with Rishabh who scored a fifty. He ended unbeaten on 52 as India scored almost 80 runs in the final seven overs. India ended on 186/5 .Meanwhile, West Indies failed to chased the target, India won the match by 8 runs.
