This is for the very first time that Suresh Raina will not be playing in the tournament. Mr. IPL, who was a part of the Chennai Super Kings, went unsold during the IPL 2022 auction.

However, the 35-year-old southpaw did not forget his old team, the Chennai Super Kings, the franchise for which he has played a number of memorable knocks over the years and helped it win the coveted title on more than one occasion. The veteran has also continued to follow the franchise’s activities on social media and he recently also expressed his love and appreciation for one of his ex teammates.

Chennai Super Kings posted a photo of Ambati Rayudu reaching the team’s pre-season camp for IPL 2022 in Surat. Suresh Raina was quick to comment the word ‘Legend’ with a couple of emojis under the photo posted by the Chennai Super Kings team. Many members of the cricket universe appreciated the comment by Raina, which once again highlighted his kind nature and how he puts others ahead of himself.

Suresh Raina has played 11 years for the CSK and scored 4,687 runs for the same franchise. CSK chief executive officer Kashi Viswanath called him the team’s “one of the most consistent performers”. However, explaining the reason for the Super Kings ignoring the experienced batter, the top official said in a video which was shared by CSK on their YouTube channel, “the team composition depends on the form and kind of team which any team would like to have so that’s one of the reasons why we thought he may not fit into this team.”

Afghanistan 20-year-old opening batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz is reportedly being considered by Gujarat Titans as the possible replacement for England opener, Jason Roy, who opted out of the IPL 2022 season due to bio-bubble fatigue.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz listed himself at the auction for a base price of Rs 50 lakh howee he went unsold. While, he has now been roped in as a replacement player. While Gujarat Titans haven’t yet officially made any announcement in this regard, the Hardik Pandya-led side looks to be his destination. Notably Gurbaz has played 9 ODIs and 12 T20Is in his short but exciting career so far.

Apart from having a 150-plus career T20 strike rate as an opener, Gurbaz is also a wicket keeper which makes him special player for Gujrat Titans. The most exciting aspect is the 20-year-old’s ability to clear the ropes, with 113 sixes in 69 career T20 games.

Wriddhiman Saha is expected to be their first choice keeper but they wanted to have a backup option so as not to be caught off-guard by an unexpected turn of events. Matthew Wade is the other keeper in GT ranks, but as per Cricket Australia decree, contracted Australian players will not be playing in IPL till April 6. 

On March 8, Gurabaz himself shared a story of being named as Jason Roy’s replacement on his official IG handle but the news is yet to get official from the franchise’s end. The 20-year-old has so far amassed 531 runs in 18 T20I appearances for Afghanistan, averaging 29.5 including two half-centuries with his highest individual score being 79. 

IPL 2022: Ireland pacer Josh Little to join Chennai Super Kings as net bowler

Ireland pace bowler Josh Little has been signed by the Chennai Super Kings as their net bowler for the Indian Premier League in 2022. 

Josh Little made his T20I debut for Ireland in 2016 while his ODI debut for the side in 2019. So far he has played 19 ODIs and 34 T20Is picking 61 wickets so far in his international career. Cricket Ireland’s official Twitter handle has shared the news of Little joining Chennai Super kings  ahead of IPL 2022. He can be added to the team in case of any emergency or as an injury replacement as well.

“Congrats to Josh Little who is heading off on a development opportunity with the Chennai Super Kings in the early stages of the upcoming IPL. The experience as a net bowler for CSK should be fantastic,” wrote Cricket Ireland while breaking the news.

Chennai Super Kings has started its preparations in Surat. They have already started preparing for IPL 2022. Dhoni has come down to full practice with bat and ball. Chennai Super Kings are regularly updating the team’s practice on social media.

Meanwhile, The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Sunday had announced the schedule for IPL 2022. The 15th season of the league will start on March 26 at the Wankhede stadium with a blockbuster clash between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. Notably a total number of 70 league matches and 4 Playoff games will be played in the duration of 65 days.

Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday posted a message to praise of their women employees on Woman’s day which included the Indian Premier League team’s massage therapist Navnita Gautam as well. Notably Navnita joined RCB as a sports massage therapist in 2019 and she was then the first and only female to be a part of the support staff of any of the IPL teams.

Meanwhile, for the last two consecutive seasons, Royal Challengers Bangalore have managed to reach the playoffs in IPL. However, they would be disappointed to not have reached the final on either occasion. Ahead of a new season, AB de Villiers won’t be available for them. IPL Schedule 2022: CSK and KKR will face each other in the opening game

The BCCI finally release the full schedule of Indian Premier League 2022. Indian board earlier confirmed that the IPL will start on March 26 with the final to be played on May 29.

The 2022 edition of the IPL will be a 10-team contest, as two new outfits, Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans have joined the fray. The teams will be divided into two groups this time. Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow Super Giants are placed in Group 1, while Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants are placed in Group 2.

All teams will play four matches each at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium and three each at Brabourne Stadium (CCI), Mumbai and MCA International Stadium, Pune. The venues for the playoffs will be decided later.

The defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will face the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the opener.  The first double-header of the season will take place on March 27. There will be a lot of double-header days in this season .

New sides Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants will begin their campaigns going against each other on Monday, March 28. With each team set to play 14 matches in the league stages, a team will play twice with the teams in their group and with the team in the same row in the second group. For instance, from the above table, MI and CSK are in the same row despite being in different groups.

Jason Roy pulled out of the IPL 2022 due to bio bubble fatigue

England batsman Jason Roy has decided to pulled out of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League citing challenges of staying in a bubble. Gujarat Titans bagged him in the mega auction with his base price of INR 2cr. Roy played his last year’s season from the Sunrises Hyderabad franchise.

According to a report in ‘ESPNcricinfo’, Jason Roy informed the franchise of his decision last week. The Titans are yet to finalise a replacement. However, the England cricketer’s pull-out from the IPL would hurt the franchise as he was in sublime form in the PSL, where, despite playing just six games for the Gladiators, he still managed to score 303 runs at an average of 50.50 and a strike rate of 170.22. 

This is the second time Roy has decided not to take part in the IPL after finding a team at the auction. In 2020, Delhi Capitals picked up Roy for his then base price of Rs 1.5 crore but he opted out for personal reasons. The 31-year-old cricketer last season had represented Sunrisers Hyderabad and dished out a few decent performances.

Meanwhile, the 2022 edition of the IPL is slated to kick off on 26th March 2022. The opening match of the tournament will see the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) locking horns with two-time IPL winners Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The tournament will conclude on 29th May 2022. For the first time in IPL history none of Chris Gayel or AB De Villiers will part of an IPL season. T20 great Chris Gayle has decided to opt-out of the IPL 2022 auction as it marked the end of an era.

Chris Gayel holds several records in the tournament’s history including most centuries and the highest individual score – 175. He is the seventh highest run scorer of all time in the history of the tournament. While, the universe boss is at the fag end of his career but he has still announced his retirement and his unavailability for IPL 2022 has indicated that his big decision is around the corner.

The Universe Boss has been a star of the IPL since its inception. He has been a part of Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Punjab Kings in his IPL journey. Last, he was played for Punjab Kings in the IPL 2021. He also won the orange cap in 2011 and 2012 for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Meanwhile one of his fans asked him which team he will be supporting in the next season, Gayle came up with two teams. The fans of Chris Gayle had asked him, “Which IPL team are you support ? ” responding to the fan’s query, the West Indies West Indies legend said “Two terms, because, I want a trophy from one of them, RCB and Punjab Kings”.

Notably, Pubjab Kings have retained only two players in Mayank Agarwal and young pacer Arshdeep Singh, they managed to get the likes of Jonny Bairstow, Shikhar Dhawan, Rahul Chahar, Kagiso Rabada, Odean Smith and Liam Livingstone.

On the other hand Royal Challengers Bangalore bought former CSK star Faf du Plessis. However they invested heavily in bowlers and all-rounders. retained a solid core in Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Mohammed Siraj. They added some particularly strong options, especially on the bowling front, during the auction. They’ve got Harshal Patel, Josh Hazlewood and Wanindu Hasaranga as likely starters, but also the likes of Jason Behrendorff and David Willey as back-ups. 

IPL 2022 Fixtures: Ten teams, Groups, new format and all updates you need to know

The IPL 2022 will start on 26th March as earlier reported by InsideSport. The finals of the league will be played on 29th May. Brijesh Patel led IPL GC has decided that all league matches will take place in Maharashtra. The Governing Council of the IPL on Friday announced the two groups and the division of matches for the upcoming IPL 2022

The 10-team season in IPL 2022 will have 74 matches, including 70 league stage matches will be played . Group A comprises Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants. Group B includes Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans.

The teams in each group were decided based on the number of titles won by the franchises and the number of appearances in the final of the IPL. Therefore, Mumbai Indians (MI) with five titles and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with four titles were drafted first. Notably, each team will play twice with the teams in their group and with the team in the same row in the second group. With the rest of the teams in the second group, they will play only once during the season.

For further clarification, let’s do this with an example, in Group A, MI will play 2 matches each against KKR, RR, DC, LSG. MI will also play 2 matches against CSK and 1 match each against other teams in Group B.

Big blow for CSK, Deepak Chahar likely to miss few matches of upcoming IPL

Indian fast bowler Deepak Chahar suffered a pull to his right hamstring while bowling in the third and final T20I match against the West Indies on February 20. And he was rendered doubtful for the Sri Lanka series, starting Thursday. 

Notably the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League is all set to start on March 26 and Deepak Chahar could also be a doubtful starter for the IPL where Chennai Super Kings forked out a massive Rs 14 crore at the auction to retain his services. He was set to be their primary pacer in the upcoming season. If it is a grade one tear Chahar will be unavailable for a few matches of IPL 2022 at the beginning. It will be a big blow for the defending champions.

The the third and final match of the T20 series against West Indies on 20th February. Deepak Chahar looked somewhat upset on the last ball of the third over. He was coming to bowl, but he suddenly stopped and bent down. And he was seen in some injury. He didn’t even complete the over. Venkatesh Iyer was called to bowl the last ball of the over.

However, still no update has been given by the BCCI or the Indian Cricket Management regarding Deepak’s injury. While Deepak Chahar will have to go straight to Bangalore-based national Cricket Academy for recovery and rehabilitation. In such a situation, his exclusion from the T20 series against Sri Lanka is considered doubtful.
