Suresh Raina went unsold in the IPL 2022 mega auction, as no franshise showed interest in buying the left-handed batsman. The Batsman’s name was brought up on the very first day of the 2-day auction, but after going unsold on that day, the veteran all-rounder didn’t make in the last list of 69 players for the accelerated auctions on Sunday. Meaning, Suresh Raina is officially out of the 15th edition of the IPL.
CSK decided to buy back most of its players from the core squad, the Yellow Army did not bid for Raina – who remains to be the fourth-highest run-getter in IPL history. Known as ‘Mr. IPL’, Suresh Raina has scored more than 5000 runs in 205 games. Raina is one of the leading run-scorers in Indian Premier League.
The left-handed batsman has scored 5528 runs in 205 IPL games and is the 4th leading run-getter in the tournament currently. The 35-yar-old has also shattered 1 century and 39 fifties in the tournament. He was also the first player in IPL’s history to breach the 5000-run mark and he did it while playing for CSK in the 2019 season.
Meanwhile, fans on Twitter were upset and they slammed Chennai Super Kings for not picking Raina despite having an INR 2.95 crore purse left after finalizing the squad.

The day two of the Indian Premier League mega auction ended on Sunday with all 10 teams completing their full quota of players.
On day one, India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan became the most expensive player to be bought by Mumbai Indians (MI) for ₹15.25 crore. Kishan is now the second most expensive Indian player to be ever snapped up at the auctions. However making a huge signing and statement, Mumbai Indians bought England pacer Jofra Archer for Rs 8 crore, on the second day. And England player Liam Livingstone became the first player to breach the double-figure mark on Day 2 of the Indian Premier League Mega Auction, fetching ₹11.50 crore as Punjab Kings won the bidding war for his signature.
Livingstone became the most expensive english player thus far. First session of Day 2 of the IPL 2022 Auction was an interesting one. Liam Livingstone (11.50 cr) and Odean Smith (6 cr) have gone to Punjab Kings, who are building a solid squad. Mumbai Indians have picked up pace, buying Mayank Markande and Jaydev Undakat for economical prices.
Shivam Dube, Khaleel Ahmed might not have played for India in the last year but they have earned big in IPL auction 2022. Chetan Sakariya was another young pacer who had a big pay day after he was picked by DC for Rs 4.2 crore. While Gujarat Titans have been proactive, Lucknow Super Giants bought Dushamanta Chameera. Also Aiden Markram and Marco Jansen have found new homes.
Total of 96 players have been sold so far. With the 33 retentions and drafts put in place, we have 129 spots filled in across 10 teams. It’s to be noted that a minimum of 51 players are to be sold today for the teams to achieve their minimum squad limit of 18 players.

Total 74 players managed to get buyers on the first day of the Indian Premier League mega players auctions, there were several players both capped and uncapped ,who couldn’t crack any deal. The second day of the auction will also see the 10 franchises engage in a fierce bidding war to grab the best of the best.
Meanwhile, Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta took to Twitter to praise the Mumbai Indians contingent on the first day of the Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction in Bengaluru on Saturday. During the auction, Zinta kept tweeting about the PBKS team and the players they have bought. She also had a special message for the rival team Mumbai Indians and its owner Nita Ambani.
Taking to her official Twitter handle, Zinta wrote, “Good to see Mumbai Indians are Covid compliant at the IPL auction table. Must confess Nita Ambani has pretty eyes.”
Notably, the Punjab Kings have the biggest purse heading into the IPL 2022 auction with a total of Rs 72 crore. They have only retained two players for a salary deduction of Rs 16 crore. PBKS purchased the first player of the day by securing the services of veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan for Rs. 8.25 Crore. They made another purchase from the marquee set by signing South African pacer Kagiso Rabada for Rs. 9.25 Crore.

Ishan Kishan is the most expensive buy so far this IPL 2022 Auction as Mumbai India break the bank and secure him for INR 15.25 crore. Deepak Chahar fetched a colossal 14 crore by Chennai Super Kings to become the second-most expensive player so far this auction. While Prasidh Krishna and Lockie Ferguson bagged 10 crores each, going to RR and LSG, respectively, Josh Hazlewood was bought by RCB for 7.75 crore. Shardul Thakur also bagged big money as DC bought him for INR 10.75 crore.
Avesh Khan became the most expensive uncapped player in the history of IPL auction as he was sold for Rs 10 crore to Lucknow Super Giants. Other uncapped players Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Tripathi, Abhishek Sharma and Dewald Brevis earned big too.
KKR kept Shivam Mavi by paying Rs 7.25 crore, while SRH paid Rs 4 crore to get paceman Kartik Tyagi. The uncapped categories witnessed some massive bids, with SRH shelling out 6.5 cr for Abhishek Sharma and 8.75 crore for Rahul Tripathi. Then, Gujarat Titans spent INR 9 crore for Rahul Tewatia.
Sunrisers Hyderabad sprang a surprise by roping in Nicholas Pooran for a whopping 10.75 crore. Krunal Pandya and Mitchell Marsh were the other big picks after the IPL 2022 auction resumed. Delhi Capitals got a big bargain as they got David Warner for Rs 6.25 crore. Yuzvendra Chahal was bought for Rs 6.50 crore by Rajasthan Royals.

Shreyas Iyer became the most expensive marquee player at the Indian Premier League 2022 auction as the Kolkata Knight Riders bought him for ₹12.25 crore.
Iyer’s entry in KKR fold ensures a captaincy candidate for them while the Shah Rukh Khan co-owned franchise also got back their Australian pace spearhead Pat Cummins for half the price at Rs 7.25 crore. One of the biggest gainer was South African pacer Kagiso Rabada who fetched more than a million dollar with Punjab Kings successfully buying him for Rs 9.25 crore. India opener Shikhar Dhawan became the first player to go under the hammer. After an intense bidding war with the Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings bought him for ₹8.25 crore.
The other batters in the first set, Faf du Plessis and David Warner, went to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for ₹7 crore and DC for ₹6.25 crore respectively. On the other hand Ravichandran Ashwin got Rs 5 crore winning bid from Rajasthan Royals while Trent Boult with his left-arm swing bowling, laughed his way to the bank with Rs 8 crore bid from Rajasthan Royals. Mohamed Shami was taken by Gujarat Titans for Rs 6.75 crore, the same amount that Lucknow Giants paid for Quinton de Kock.
Meanwhile, The IPL 2022 Auction will resume at 3:30 PM IST. Early lunch was taken as auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapsed mid-event. Reports suggest he is fine and will be back to the event. And according to report, Charu Sharma the presentor will continue the auction. Hugh Edmeades will have a rest.
Day 1 of the Indian Premier League 2022 mega auction is set to get underway in a few hours’ time in Bengaluru. The 15th season of IPL Auction 2022 is all set for the mega auction that will be held in Bangalore. A total of 590 cricketers have been shortlisted by the BCCI. These 590 cricketers would go under the hammer over the period of two days. 370 Indian players and 270 overseas players make up the 590 players.
Two new teams have been added onto the scene making season 15 a 10-team affair. As many as 74 matches are expected to be played. The ownership has moved on from Vivo to Tata and it will be called the Tata IPL from the 2022 season. And the auction will be broadcasted live on the Star Sports network from 11 am across the two days.
Amongst the 220 overseas players, 47 belong to Australia, the highest for any foreign country in the IPL 2022 mega auction. West Indies (34) will see the second-highest numbers of players participate in the auction, followed by South Africa (33), England and New Zealand (24 each), Sri Lanka (23), and Afghanistan (17). Players from Bangladesh, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Nepal, USA, and Scotland have also been shortlisted for the IPL.

In one such case, as per report, that Jason Holder is being sought by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and they are willing to dole out big bucks. With a purse of Rs. 57 Crore, RCB is looking to buy West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder. RCB are willing to pay up to INR 12 Cr for the 30-year-old. Holder, who played for Sunrisers Hyderabad has grown as a T20 player over the last couple of years. Recently, he took a double hat-trick to help West Indies seal a thrilling series victory against England at home.
The sources further told that RCB will also keep Ambati Rayudu and Riyan Parag on its radar. They are one of the main targets for the franchise. Although age is not on Rayudu’s side, he is a proven performer and the franchise has reserved 8 Cr for him. It will be interesting to watch RCB’s auction strategy. The franchise has to bring in a potential captaincy candidate besides making a formidable squad that can be sustained for at least three years of the IPL.
“For Holder they have reserved Rs 12 crore and another Rs 8 crore for Rayudu and Rs 7 crore for Parag. If they spend about Rs 27 crore on these players, they would have another Rs 28 crore left over. The IPL mega auction is scheduled on February 12 and 13 in Bangalore. The final auction list includes a total of 590 players. Among the shortlisted players, 47 are from Australia while 24 belong to England.
Meanwhile Cricket Australia’s announcement to tour Pakistan in the month of March-April. Regarding this tour, the availability of Australian players is a big question ahead of the auction. The Indian Premier League 2022 is scheduled to begin in the last week of March and at that time the Australian players will be engaged in national duties in Pakistan, which rules them out of the first few IPL games.
Australian players might miss the first 4-5 games of the marquee Indian Premier League. As per report by Cricbuzz, there is a uncertainty over availability of England and Australia players. England players could be pulled back in the last week of May. Also, some of the Australian players might be missing if they will be selected for Australia’s tour to Pakistan from March 29 to April 5.
Australia haven’t announced their squad for the tour yet but a strong team is expected to land in Pakistan. “I think we’ll get close to a full-strength squad. There is still a little bit of work to do. We have received a lot of information and it has been great. All the pre-tour security and biosecurity work has been done and it’s been fantastic,” Australia Test skipper Pat Cummins said recently.
