Sunil Gavaskar has picked Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell as Royal Challengers Bangalore’s new captain

Former India openers Sunil Gavaskar believes Glenn Maxwell is the most suitable candidate to be RCB’s new skipper. Notably, Royal Challengers Bangalore have made some really exciting buys in the just-concluded IPL 2022 mega auction. Meanwhile, RCB are yet to name their captain.

In the auction, RCB found two names in Faf du Plessis and Dinesh Karthik, who could become the next captain of the team in IPL 2022. However, Sunil Gavaskar has picked Australian all-rounder Maxwell to lead the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Gavaskar feels giving Maxwell the additional responsibility will make him a better player and see him score more runs.

In a conversation with Sports Talk Gavaskar said ” “I think if Glenn Maxwell is given the responsibility then a different kind of Maxwell will be seen in IPL. Last year he batted brilliantly probably keeping the mega auction in mind, but he was retained after that, which was good, I guess, for him.”

“We have often seen that players who bat well but score 30-40 runs quickly and get out without getting the job done- especially when suppose the team requires 70 or 80 runs more. But when these same players are given a responsibility then they played well showing better shot selection. So if Maxwell is given the captaincy, he will score more and play better,” added Gavaskar.

Meanwhile, RCB’s Director Mike Hesson revealed his thoughts on the talks about Du Plessis leading the side, following Day 1’s action at the auction.Mike Hesson said, ‘We have not had that discussion yet. We have three great leaders now in the form of Maxwell, Virat, and Faf du Plessis. We are really happy with those three leaders, we also have Josh Hazlewood as a leader from a bowling point of view. So we are happy with the group, we will make a decision regarding captaincy after the auction’.

IPL 2022: Wasim Jaffer steps down as Punjab Kings batting coach, shares a hilarious meme to announce his exit

Wasim Jaffer has resigned his role as Punjab Kings’ batting coach a couple of days ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. He joined the then Kings XI Punjab in the year 2019 and worked closely with the support staff till the 2021 season.

Just a day away from the auction and former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer announced that he won’t be part of the Punjab Kings anymore. In Jaffer’s time as the batting coach, skipper KL Rahul had two memorable seasons with the bat scoring 670 and 626 runs in 2020 and 2021 respectively.

Jaffer announced his exit from the Punjab-based franchise with a hilarious Twitter post by sharing a meme featuring popular Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor from the movie ‘Ae Dil hei Mushkil’. Jaffer captioned the post, “Adios, and thank you  @PunjabKingsIPL, it’s been a pleasure. Wishing @anilkumble1074 and the team very best for #IPL2022.”

However, this is the second major departure from Anil Kumble’s coaching staff ahead of the new season. Earlier assistant coach Andy Flower had left PBKS and joined the Lucknow Super Giants, who have been appointed him as the head coach ahead of their inaugural season in the league. Notably, with Rs. 72 Crore in the bank, PBKS has the highest auction purse among all 10 teams going into the mega auction.

IPL 2022: MS Dhoni, Likely to be Present For The IPL Mega Auction

The IPL 2022 mega auction is not too far away and the teams have their strategies in place. The existing eight teams have retained some top players but at the same time released top players ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni, who was retained by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 12 crore, arrived here to join their preparation for the Indian Premier League mega auction, scheduled for February 12 and 13. Notably, according to report MS Dhoni could be present for CSK at the table during the auction. Not only will this excite fans, but will also help CSK pick wisely as Dhoni would bring in all his experience while placing bids.

The franchisee shared a pic of Dhoni on Twitter. “Yes, he has arrived in Chennai today. He will be here for the auction discussions. He is likely to be present for the auction. But it is Mahi’s call and a call will be made close to the auction,” sources told. In November, CSK revealed the names of its four retained players. Jadeja was confirmed as its first-choice player for Rs. 16 crore, while Dhoni was the second-choice for Rs. 12 crore. England all-rounder Moeen Ali and India’s Ruturaj Gaikwad were the remaining two players retained by CSK for IPL 2022 for Rs. 8 crore and Rs. 4 crore, respectively.

“Again I’ve said it before, it depends on BCCI. With two new teams coming in, we have to decide what is good for CSK. It’s not about me being there in top-three or four. It’s about making a strong core to ensure the franchise doesn’t suffer. The core group, we have to have a hard look to see who can contribute for the next 10 years,” Dhoni told host broadcaster.
