Fans come up with hilarious reactions after Sunrisers Hyderabad launch new orange jersey

Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday, February 9, unveiled its new jersey for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. The announcement comes just three days ahead of the IPL 2022 auction to be held in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13.

The SRH took to social media on Wednesday to share a glimpse of their redesigned jersey. They have retained their trademark orange and back colour, giving the outfit a sharper look. The black stripes on the jersey have been removed from the new kit. The black colour will only be limited to the sleeves while the rest of the kit will be fully orange. “Presenting our new jersey. The #OrangeArmour for the #OrangeArmy,” SRH tweeted.

After seeing the colour of the jersey, the fans couldn’t help themselves but notice the resemblance with the kit of the Big Bash League (BBL) side Perth Scorchers from the last year. Some users also found similarities between the kit of Big Bash League side Perth Scorchers and the new jersey of SRH. Here’s how netizens reacted to SRH’s new jersey design on social media.

Sunrisers Hyderabad is one of the consistent teams in the Indian Premier League. However, things didn’t go too well for them last year. They lacked application with both bat and ball. SRH skipper David Warner was sacked mid-season due to his team’s poor performance. Coming into IPL 2022, SRH made some big changes to the squad. SRH have retained Kane Williamson and two more young Indians, namely Abdul Samad and Umran Malik. Ahead of the mega-auctions, developing a potent bowling attack will be one of their biggest challenges. Dale Steyn has been appointed as the new fast bowling coach.

India beat West Indies by 44 runs in the second ODI in Ahmedabad.

India beat West Indies by 44 runs in the second ODI at Narendra Modi Stadium .India gain unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

India managed to score a below par 237/9 in 50 overs after being put in to bat by West Indies‘ stand-in captain Nicholas Pooran in the 2nd ODI. India’s opening stand didn’t last long as Kemar Roach dismissed Rohit on 5. Virat Kohli on 18 and Rishabh Pant on 18. After that, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav notched up a 50-run stand in 83 balls. They added a total of 91 runs. While, Rahul was dismissed for 49. Suryakumar went on to score a half century but his dismissal for 64 too the wind out of India’s sails. A cameo from Deepak Hooda helped India post 237 eventually.

When Windies came out to chase, they were looking set for a win since both the openers Brendan King and Shai Hope did very well to negotiate the new ball. However, West Indies lost opener Brandon King (18) and Darren Bravo (1). Prasidh Krishna produced a power-packed performance with the ball . Prasidh Krishna was the standout bowler for India as he picked a classy four-fer while conceding just 12 runs in nine overs including three maiden overs.

Shardul Thakur picked two wickets while Yuzvendra Chahal Mohammed Siraj, Deepak Hooda, and Washington Sundar got one each to their credit. The Indian bowlers bundled out the opposition for 193. India had won the first ODI by six wickets and now the third game will be played on February 11.

‘Grip Is Too Wide Jam’: Harbhajan Singh gives bowling advice to Rahul Dravid

Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh has reacted to his ex-teammate and India’s current head coach Rahul Dravid’s bowling pictures.  Rahul Dravid bowled spin in the nets ahead of the second ODI at Ahmedabad.

The BCCI on Monday shared two photos of head coach Rahul Dravid bowling spin in the Team India nets ahead of the second one-day international against West Indies. BCCI  shared the images and captioned the post: “Celebrating the 23rd anniversary of @anilkumble1074’s 10-74.” Harbhajan retweeted the BCCI post.

Replying to BCCI’s tweet, the former India off-spinner pointed out that Dravid’s grip with the ball is too much wide and also mentioned that he won’t be able to get much spin from the ball. ‘Grip is too wide jam .. won’t be able to spin as much you like,’ said Harbhajan.

Rahul Dravid was bowling at the nets to mark the 23rd anniversary of Anil Kumble’s 10-wicket haul, which he claimed in an India-Pakistan Test match at New Delhi, India in 1999. Only three cricketers have been able to achieve this ridiculous feat in cricket history; Jim Laker, Kumble and Ajaz Patel. England’s Laker was the first to take wickets in an innings, by doing so against Australia in 1956. After Kumble, Ajaz did the same last year, when he took all 10 wickets in an innings vs India in Mumbai. Also, all three bowlers who have achieved this feat are spinners.

Wriddhiman Saha opts out of Bengal’s Ranji campaign

Senior wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha has opted out of Bengal’s Ranji Trophy 2022 edition. Saha has decided to withdraw himself from Bengal’s Ranji Trophy squad after he will not be picked for India’s two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, starting in Mohali on March 4.

The inclusion of senior wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha not picked for the Sri Lanka Test as Rishabh Pant has been considered as a future leader of the team. Also, KS Bharat displayed great glove work in the Kanpur Test against New Zealand, that’s why the wicket-keeper batsman not considered as a new backup option alongside Pant in India’s upcoming red-ball matches.

“Wriddhiman has been categorically told by influential people in the team management that they want to move on and create some new back-ups alongside Rishabh Pant,” a senior BCCI source said

“He was explained that he won’t be picked for the Sri Lanka Tests as it’s time that Kona gets his share of exposure with the senior team. May be that’s the reason, Wriddhiman had informed Cricket Association of Bengal president Abhishek Dalmiya and joint secretary Snehasish Ganguly that he would not play Ranji Trophy this season for ‘personal reasons. That’s why the selectors didn’t pick him as he was unavailable for selection,” the source added.

Saha has played 40 Tests and scored 1353 runs with three hundreds and an average of less than 30 which became his undoing. He however had 104 dismissals behind stumps, 92 catches and 12 stumpings.

Pat Cummins breaks silence on Justin Langer’s exit

Justin Langer stepped down as the head coach of the men’s team earlier this month despite leading the team to a historic title win at the T20 World Cup last year and a 4-0 Ashes triumph in January. Regarding this issue Many former Aussie cricketers have openly criticized Cricket Australia for their decision. Even Test skipper Pat Cummins has also come under the scanner.

Meanwhile Australia’s Test captain Pat Cummins has broken his silence four days after Justin Langer’s departure. He said that there was never any issue with the coach’s “intensity” but the side needed a “calmer” and “more collaborative” approach. Cummins stated that the apology from Langer over his intense coaching style was “unnecessary” because it came from a good place.

Several experts and former cricketers have criticized Cummins and his teammates for orchestrating Langer’s departure since. While acknowledging their position, Cummins stated that while he appreciates it, he will continue to support his teammates. Cummins has addressed saga via a statement released on his behalf by CA.

“There has been much public comment since Justin Langer’s resignation as the coach of the Australian cricket team,” Cummins said in the statement. “For good reason, I haven’t made public comment before today. To speak about a decision, which was yet to be made and which is for Cricket Australia to make, would have put Cricket Australia and the team in an impossible position. I’d never do that. I believe in respecting the sanctity of the change room and proper process.”

“Justin has acknowledged that his style was intense. And it was. He has apologised to players and staff for his intensity. I think the apology was unnecessary. Because the players were OK with JL’s intensity. It came from a good place ‘ his fierce love of Australia and the baggy green ‘ something which has served Australian cricket well for three decades. It’s what makes him a legend of the sport. And Justin’s intensity drove a better team culture and higher team standards. These are significant Justin Langer legacies,” Cummins added.

I take this responsibility seriously. I live and breathe it. We also have a duty to our mates. Many former players have reached out to me and silently offered me their advice which is welcome. Some others have spoken in the media ‘ which is also welcome and comes from a love of the game and their support of a mate. To all past players, I want to say this: Just as you have always stuck up for your mates, I’m sticking up for mine,” Cummins said. CA have made a brave call to transition, given the team has been winning. Finally, we are custodians of cricket, with one very big thing in common: our first duty is to Australian cricket, which is bigger than any one of us,” Cummins added.

James Anderson, Stuart Broad dropped from England Test squad for West Indies

England & Wales Cricket Board announced the squad for the tour of West Indies. The humiliating 4-0 loss against Australia in the recently concluded Ashed  has already seen the likes of Ashley Giles, Chris Silverwood, and Graham Thorpe losing their jobs and now England’s two leading wicket-takers in Test cricket have been forced to follow the same route. The selection panel has dropped eight players who featured in the recent Ashes series.

England’s all-time leading test wicket-takers James Anderson and Stuart Broad have been dropped for the three-test tour against West Indies. Fast bowlers Anderson and Broad have taken a combined 1,177 wickets in Test cricket but were left out of the 16-man squad by a selection panel. Apart from them Dom Bess, Sam Billings, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler, Haseeb Hameed and Dawid Malan also miss out.

In a statement released by the ECB, Strauss, said: “In respect of James Anderson and Stuart Broad, I want to emphasise this does not mean the end for them as England players. We feel that it is important to look at some exciting new bowling potential and give some added responsibility to other players who have featured previously. No one doubts the quality and experience that James and Stuart bring to the England set-up. It will be up to the new managing director and permanent head coach to decide on whether they will be involved this summer and beyond.”

England are scheduled to play a three-match Test series against the West Indies with the opening game set to be played on March 8. The three-match Test series forms part of the ICC World Test Championship.

England Squad: Joe Root (C), Jonny Bairstow, Zak Crawley, Matthew Fischer, Ben Foakes, Dan Lawrence, Jack Leach, Alex Lees, Saqib Mahmood, Craig Overton, Matthew Parkinson, Ollie Pope, Ollie Robinson, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood

Hardik Pandya ignores Sourav Ganguly’s key advice

All-rounder Hardik Pandya will skip the upcoming season of the Ranji Trophy . Pandya is looking to get back his fitness first. He wants to focus on his India comeback in white-ball cricket. Notably, Pandya ignored BCCI president Sourav Ganguly’s key comeback advice .

In interview to PTI last week, BCCI President Saurav Ganguly had said he expected to see the all-rounder play in the Ranji Trophy. “Hardik was injured and a break was given to him to completely recover, so that he can continue to serve Indian cricket for a long period of time. I believe I will see him play some Ranji Trophy to start with. I expect him to bowl a lot more overs and his body will get stronger,” Ganguly said.

However, on Monday, Baroda Cricket Association revealed their 20-member squad for the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. Kedar Devdhar was named as the captain. Hardik’s name wasn’t part of the list. Hardik Pandya received a lot of flak for not bowling during India’s dismal T20 World Cup campaign, even he making himself unavailable for national selection due to back injury and further rehabilitation.

Pandya has not played red ball cricket since December 2018 and has often admitted that injuries have put a spanner on his prospects in the longest format of the game. However he will return to competitive cricket in the IPL, where he is set to make his maiden appearance as a full-time captain with the CVC-owned Ahmedabad franchise.

IPL 2022: It’s great if I can play for CSK, said Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik was released by the two-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders. The 36-year-old represented Kolkata Knight Riders in the last four editions. He even captained the side for a while but ahead of the IPL 2022, KKR released him.

Dinesh Karthik would now be hoping to start afresh this season. Karthik is looking forward to the mega auction which is scheduled to take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. In a conversation with the news agency, Karthik has said that he would be privileged to be a part of the defending champions Chennai Super Kings but at the same time, has also said that it is tough for him to pick a choice at the moment.

“It’s very hard for me to answer this question because it will be a very cliched answer. I’ll try and do everything that I can, not only to do well for the franchisee I play for but for myself also. Look, it’s great if I can play for CSK. I’m from Chennai. But at the end of the day, what’s important for me is whichever team that I get to play in, it will be an absolute honor because as I said, all this practice that I’ve been doing these days is to try and do well in a tournament like the IPL”, Karthik said.

Talking about IPL mega auction, a total of 590 players will go under the hammer at the auction. This includes several reputed openers. Among the 590 players, 370 are Indian and the rest 220 are overseas players

IPL 2022 : RCB to target Jason Holder, Ambati Rayudu and Riyan Parag in the Mega Auction

West Indies all-rounders Jason Holder, could become one of the most expensive players in the history of the Indian Premier League. The IPL 2022 mega auction hardly a few days away. All ten franchises would be looking forward to making few important addition to their side.

In one such case, as per report, that Jason Holder is being sought by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and they are willing to dole out big bucks. With a purse of Rs. 57 Crore, RCB is looking to buy West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder.  RCB are willing to pay up to INR 12 Cr for the 30-year-old. Holder, who played for Sunrisers Hyderabad has grown as a T20 player over the last couple of years. Recently, he took a double hat-trick to help West Indies seal a thrilling series victory against England at home.

The sources further told that RCB will also keep Ambati Rayudu and Riyan Parag on its radar. They are one of the main targets for the franchise. Although age is not on Rayudu’s side, he is a proven performer and the franchise has reserved 8 Cr for him. It will be interesting to watch RCB’s auction strategy. The franchise has to bring in a potential captaincy candidate besides making a formidable squad that can be sustained for at least three years of the IPL.

“For Holder they have reserved Rs 12 crore and another Rs 8 crore for Rayudu and Rs 7 crore for Parag. If they spend about Rs 27 crore on these players, they would have another Rs 28 crore left over. The core with Kohli, Maxwell, Siraj, Holder, Rayudu and Parag is established. Let’s hope they can get two of the preferred three‘ a source close to RCB was quoted
