IPL 2022: MS Dhoni, Likely to be Present For The IPL Mega Auction

The IPL 2022 mega auction is not too far away and the teams have their strategies in place. The existing eight teams have retained some top players but at the same time released top players ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni, who was retained by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 12 crore, arrived here to join their preparation for the Indian Premier League mega auction, scheduled for February 12 and 13. Notably, according to report MS Dhoni could be present for CSK at the table during the auction. Not only will this excite fans, but will also help CSK pick wisely as Dhoni would bring in all his experience while placing bids.

The franchisee shared a pic of Dhoni on Twitter. “Yes, he has arrived in Chennai today. He will be here for the auction discussions. He is likely to be present for the auction. But it is Mahi’s call and a call will be made close to the auction,” sources told. In November, CSK revealed the names of its four retained players. Jadeja was confirmed as its first-choice player for Rs. 16 crore, while Dhoni was the second-choice for Rs. 12 crore. England all-rounder Moeen Ali and India’s Ruturaj Gaikwad were the remaining two players retained by CSK for IPL 2022 for Rs. 8 crore and Rs. 4 crore, respectively.

“Again I’ve said it before, it depends on BCCI. With two new teams coming in, we have to decide what is good for CSK. It’s not about me being there in top-three or four. It’s about making a strong core to ensure the franchise doesn’t suffer. The core group, we have to have a hard look to see who can contribute for the next 10 years,” Dhoni told host broadcaster.

Ranji Trophy, is all set to return after a gap of two years

Ranji Trophy, the red-ball domestic cricket tournament is all set to return after a gap of two years. BCCI was forced to postpone the domestic tournament due to rising of COVID 19. . 2022, Ranji Trophy season was originally scheduled to start from January 13. The tournament couldn’t be conducted last year due to the pandemic.

However, Board of Control for Cricket in India recently confirmed that the tournament is going to be held in two phases before the league stage of IPL, and the knockout stage will be held after it. And the domestic tournament is held from February 16 to March 5, as per the revised scheduled prepared by the BCCI.

BCCI sources told that the likely venues for the 38-team event are Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Trivandrum, Cuttack, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Baroda and Rajkot, which means nine separate bio-bubbles will be created. BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced last week that the red ball event will be held in two phases. The knockouts will be held in June.

The format has been tweaked and there will be eight groups of four teams each with the plate group comprising six teams. Teams which fail to advance to the next stage will end up playing only three games compared to five in the original format, effectively impacting the players’ match fee.

Shaheen Afridi Reveals His Plans In T20 World Cup 2021 Clash Against India

Pakistan bowler Shaheen Afridi has reaveald that how he tackled the India batting trio of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli at the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Shaheen Afridi was the star performer in the 2021 Men’s T-20 World Cup. The youngster’s opening spell pushed India on the backfoot, Afridi’s new-ball spell proved to be the difference between the two teams as he first trapped Rohit lbw for a first-ball duck in the very first over and then bowled Rahul on three in his following over. And later dismissed Kohli on 57 to restrict the Men in Blue to 151/7 in 20 overs.

Meanwhile, Shaheen said he had a fixed plan going against Kohli while he tried to pitch it up to Rohit and Rahul. In a chat with Cricbuzz, Afridi spoke about the surreal experience from the match that earned him plenty of praise from the global cricketing fraternity.

“The end I was bowling from, the leg-side boundary was smaller, say about 60-65 meter only. If I had bowled straight and fast at him [Virat Kohli], he would have flicked me or pulled me for runs. So I wanted to mix things up and bowl a slow bouncer at him so that it would have been difficult for him to go leg-side.” Shaheen said.

“Luckily for me, the ball gripped and he got out. I admire Virat Kohli a lot, he’s one of the best around. Rohit, Rahul and Kohli are their mainstays and three of the best batsmen in the world. Kohli unki reedh ki haddi hai (Kohli is their spinal cord). And once you get them out, it gets difficult for the middle order. And if one of them bats deep, it gets easier for the batsman coming in later. Since I was getting some swing in that match – and the team anyway wants wickets from me early on – I was trying to pitch it up to Rohit and Rahul and I was able to get both of them out,” he added.

“It was a great day for me, to be honest. A lot of people watch India-Pakistan matches, including those who don’t even like cricket (laughs). When I look back on that win, I feel very proud. Yes, we couldn’t win the World Cup but we did well in that game against India and I’ll try to give my best even in the next World Cup,” said the Pakistan pacer.

“I’m Not Married To Him”: Harbhajan Singh On MS Dhoni

Former Indian team off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has spoken openly about his relationship with Mahendra Singh Dhoni. he refused to accept there’s any rift between him and Dhoni and said they are good friends.

Harbhajan did not receive a lot of support from the Board of Control of Cricket in India and ‘external’ factors in the final phase of his career. , Harbhajan also pointed out how MS Dhoni enjoyed unmatched support from the board unlike other players . However, Harbhajan recently cleared the rumor on his relationship with Dhoni. He said: “Very nice. I am not married to him!”

“See, everyone interprets a quote differently. I just wanted to convey that a lot of things could have been better post 2012. Sehwag, me, Yuvraj , Gambhir could have retired playing for Indian team since all of them were active in IPL as well. It is ironical that the Champions of the 2011 team never played together again! Why? Only few of them played in 2015 World Cup, why?” Harbhajn asked.

“No, not at all. I have no complaints against MS. In fact, he has been a good friend all these years. I have complaint to the BCCI, the sarkar of that time. I call BCCI as sarkar! The selectors of that time didn’t do justice to their roles. They didn’t allow the team to be united,” he added.

West Indies vs England: Jason Holder picked up four wickets in four balls

West Indies managed to beat England in the fifth and final T20I and thus, won the five-match T20I series by 3-2. In the dramatic last over of the match, Jason Holder picked up four wickets in four balls to turn the match in the home team’s favour.

Jason Holder etched his name in history books after becoming the first West Indies bowler to take a hattrick in T20I. Earlier West Indies won the toss, chose to bat and scored 179-4 at the Kensington Oval. In reply, England was all out for 162 with one ball left after entering the final over at 160-6 and needing 20 runs to win.

England required 20 runs off the final over to win the series decider. However, Holder stunned everyone with his bowling . He started the over with no ball followed by dismissal of Chris Jordan and Sam Billings with his second and third deliveries of the over. Holder then had Adil Rashid taken at deep square leg by Odean Smith before ending the match with the wicket of Saqib Mahmood, with both batsmen getting out for golden ducks. Jason Holder finished with figures of five for 27.

“A classic finish, wasn’t the best start, but I just wanted to stay in the game. Did not work well yesterday, but was totally the opposite tonight. I was a bit disappointed with the no-ball, I look to be disciplined, but then to get the next five balls perfectly was nice. Was just pumped up. A lot of hard work, can improve on my death bowling, add some variations,” said Jason Holder after the completion of the match.

“I was shocked”: Ricky Ponting on Virat Kohli’s decision to step away from Test Captaincy

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting was surprised by Virat Kohli when he decided to step down as the captain of the Indian Test team. While Ponting said that Virat Kohli should be proud of his achievements as Test captain, especially the way he prioritized the longest format.

“Yes, it did actually surprise me. Probably the main reason why is I had a chat and good catch-up with Virat during the first part of the IPL before it got postponed. He was talking then about stepping away from white-ball cricket and how passionate he was to continue on to be Test match captain. He just loved and cherished that job and that post so much. Obviously, the Indian Test team had achieved a lot under his leadership. When I heard it, I was really, really surprised,” In an interview with ICC, legendary Australian captain Ricky Ponting has said.

Ponting said that Virat was one of the most passionate players to play the test format. Although, Ponting added that he can understand Virat’s decision of stepping down as a Test captain.

“You only have to watch him on the field for an hour of the day’s play to realize how passionate he is about that job and the role, and how much he wants the team to win and how much he wants the best for Indian cricket. I was shocked, but then I started thinking about other things, even my own time as captain. I have gone on record and said that I probably think I played a couple of years longer than I should have in hindsight. I think I might have been captain for a couple of years longer than I should have,” he added.

“So I think there is potentially a shelf-life for international cricket captains and even coaches. Virat’s been there for close to seven years now. If there’s a country in the world that’s the most difficult to captain, it’s probably India because of just how popular the game is and how much every single Indian loves to see the fortunes of the Indian cricket team, whether they are good or bad. You weigh all those things up,” said Ponting.

Brendon MacCullum: It was disappointing to lose Shubman Gill

Kolkata Knight Riders had to make some tough decisions ahead of the mega auction for the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. Two-time IPL champions decided to not retain the Indian young opener Subhman Gill ahead of the upcoming auction.

However, Shubman Gill was touted to be one of the leaders in the future of KKR .Gill was drafted in by the Ahmedabad side for INR 8 crore ahead of the two-day auction after being released by KKR. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders head coach Brendon McCullum said it was disappointing for the franchise to lose young Indian opener Shubman Gill.

McCullum admitted that it was “disappointing” to lose the young Indian opener. However, he pointed out that they needed to make some hard choices while deciding the retentions. “You need to plan as you’re going to lose a lot of players. It was disappointing to lose Shubman Gill. But that’s the way life is sometimes and we will be well prepared for the upcoming auction. Sunil Narine and Andre Russell have been proven campaigners for a decade. We have all seen what Varun Chakravarthy is capable of in the last two seasons. Venkatesh Iyer was probably the story of the second half of IPL 2021,” McCullum said in a live session for KKR.

Kolkata Knight Riders spent 42 crores to retain four players before the mega auction. They have retained two Indian players, Venkatesh Iyer and Varun Chakravarthy, and two foreigners players, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine.
