Former India batting coach said that Shreyas Iyer at No. 3 position ‘can be very good option’

Former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar  reckoned that the India team management is looking at Shreyas Iyer as Virat’s replacement at No 3 . Bangar feels that Iyer would make a great backup option to play in that spot, especially at instances when Virat Kohli is rested/out, injured and beyond.

“The bench is getting strong. The position at which Shreyas is being sent to bat, he is being continuously sent at No. 3. So God forbid if Virat Kohli gets injured in some match, I feel he can become a very good option at No. 3 and that is probably where the team management’s sights are set on Shreyas Iyer,” Sanjay Banger said on Star Sports after the match’s completion. 

Iyer replaced Kohli and did extremely well on both occasions. While he scored 25 off 16 in Kolkata, the youngster played a stunning knock of 57 runs in 28 deliveries to help India beat Sri Lanka by 62 runs in Lucknow. Former all-rounder Irfan Pathan also agreed to Bangar and heaped huge praise on Shreyas Iyer.

“This guy has the swag. When this boy is in form, it is enjoyable to watch. The big shots he plays, he doesn’t stay at one spot but despite that, the balance he generates, it is his own ability. “I like the non-looker six he hits the most. The two sixes he hit off the slower ones – one-off Karunaratne and later off Chameera. He answered the critics with his bat, you don’t need to answer with your tongue. If we expect Shreyas Iyer to bat always at a strike rate of around 160, that’s not going to happen, he is a different batter,” Pathan said.

IND vs SL : Ruturaj Gaikwad Ruled Out Of The T20Is Against Sri Lanka

Indian batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the T20 series against Sri Lanka due to a wrist injury. Ruturaj played in the last T20I against West Indies where he got out cheaply.

“Ruturaj Gaikwad complained of pain in his right wrist, which is affecting his batting. He was unavailable for selection for the first T20I. The BCCI Medical Team is examining him,” BCCI stated yesterday. It has now been confirmed that Ruturaj will be unavailable for the last two T20Is. While, Mayank Agarwal replaces him for remaining matches. his is the second time Agarwal has been added to the India squad. 

Earlier, Mayank was also added to the one-day squad for the West Indies series after Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer and Gaikwad tested positive for COVID-19. “It was not difficult to send Agarwal in because it could easily be a bubble-to-bubble transfer. He was in Chandigarh and he was immediately rushed,” a source told Cricbuzz.

About Ruturaj Gaikwad’s absence from the eleven in the 1st T20 against Sri Lanka , Rohit was said that the young opener was set to play the game but a wrist injury ruled him out. “It’s a challenge for the new gutsy – from the last game we played, we have 6 changes. Ruturaj was supposed to play, but he has a wrist injury and will not play today,” said the skipper.

Meanwhile, Indian players left Lucknow and are quarantining in Chandigarh for the final two games, which will be played in Dharamshala. However, Ruturaj’s injury adds to the already long injury list, with Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Chahar, and KL Rahul ruled out prior to the series.

India beat Sri Lanka by 62 runs in the first T20I in Lucknow. With this win, the host take a 1-0 lead in the series. While, since Dravid replaced Ravi Shastri at the helm of Indian cricket, the Men in Blue have played seven T20Is and won all of them.

Meanwhile, India’s head coach Rahul Dravid’s priceless reaction was captured after a DRS overturned the on-field umpire’s decision during the first T20I against Sri Lanka. The incident took place when Yuzvendra Chahal wrapped Charith Asalanka on his pads and the Sri Lankan batter was given out. Asalanka took the DRS and survived. 

The visitors were chasing a mammoth 200-run total in the 1st T20. Chasing the target Sri Lanka had lost a couple of early wickets. However Asalanka looked pretty comfortable against the Indian bowling attack. While, in the sixth over of the match Yuzvendra Chahal trapped Charith Asalanka out LBW . Asalanka had tried to sweep the leggie but he couldn’t make a connection and the ball ended up hitting his pads.

Asalanka was given out but he took the DRS. The replay showed that the ball had touched the batter’s bat before hitting the pads. After the umpire gave it not-out, the Indian coach could not believe what he saw and gave a priceless reaction. Asalanka scored a half-century as he remained unbeaten for 53 off 47 deliveries.

IPL 2022 Fixtures: Ten teams, Groups, new format and all updates you need to know

The IPL 2022 will start on 26th March as earlier reported by InsideSport. The finals of the league will be played on 29th May. Brijesh Patel led IPL GC has decided that all league matches will take place in Maharashtra. The Governing Council of the IPL on Friday announced the two groups and the division of matches for the upcoming IPL 2022. 

The 10-team season in IPL 2022 will have 74 matches, including 70 league stage matches will be played . Group A comprises Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants. Group B includes Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans.

The teams in each group were decided based on the number of titles won by the franchises and the number of appearances in the final of the IPL. Therefore, Mumbai Indians (MI) with five titles and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with four titles were drafted first. Notably, each team will play twice with the teams in their group and with the team in the same row in the second group. With the rest of the teams in the second group, they will play only once during the season.

For further clarification, let’s do this with an example, in Group A, MI will play 2 matches each against KKR, RR, DC, LSG. MI will also play 2 matches against CSK and 1 match each against other teams in Group B.

Meanwhile, the english pacer Jofra Archer has once again headlines for his old tweet on Russia. Notably, the world has been left stunned since early on Thursday when Russia launched a wide-ranged military attack on Ukraine via land, sea and air. And within hours of the first attack, Russia was able to destroy several Ukrainian military installations and attack other cities of the country. The attack carried out by Russia is being considered one of the biggest since World War II. 

Jofra Archer seems to have predicted the Russia-Ukraine conflict back in 2014. In his tweet, he had backed the world’s largest country by saying, “Come on Russia!”. His tweet went viral after Russia invaded Ukraine. Netizens are now expressing the opinion that he had predicted this war 8 years ago.

IND vs SL T20: Ravindra Jadeja does the famous Pushpa celebration

India’s all rounder Ravindra Jadeja made his comeback in international cricket against Sri Lanka in Lucknow. He overcame a knee injury and after proper rehabilitation came back into the Indian playing XI. And  India defeated Sri Lanka by 62 runs in the first T20I of the three-match series.

Notably, Ravindra Jadeja played his last international match in November 2021. Jadeja has been out of the team since playing the Kanpur Test match against New Zealand. Earlier, Batting first, India scored 199 runs for the loss of two wickets. However , Jadeja face 4 balls in batting. But, he was sensational with the ball in hand. Jadeja gave away just 28 runs from his quota of four overs and also took an important wicket of wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Chandimal

Ravindra Jadeja was introduced in the eighth over of the Sri Lankan innings. He went for nine runs in his first over with Dinesh Chandimal hitting him for six in the fourth delivery of his first over. He came back in the second over and dismissed Chandinal. The ball pitched on off-stump and turned sharply to miss his bat. Chandimal advanced to play the delivery but was beaten by the bounce and the turn.

The batsman couldn’t adjust for the extra turn and it turned big to beat the outside edge. It was one of the easiest stumpings for Ishan Kishan. However, after picking up the wicket of Dinesh Chandimal, Ravindra Jadeja did a Pushpa style celebration which has gone viral on social media.

Yuzvendra Chahal celebrates Ravindra Jadeja’s return in a hilarious way

India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is all set to make a comeback into the international cricket. Jadeja had been out of the Indian set-up for a long time due to an injury. Jadeja last played for India in a two-match Test series against New Zealand in November 2021.

However, India’s leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal welcomed Jadeja on his return in a special way. Chahal came up with a hilarious Instagram story that included an edited picture of the all-rounder and it did leave the social media in splits. And shared it on Instagram Chahal wrote in it, “Welcome, Jaddu Pa.” After sharing this meme, this photo is going viral on social media. People are liking it a lot.  In this edited photo, Jadeja is seen wearing a golden necklace with a beard-mustache, earrings in the ears, Gajra in the hair and Mangtika. 

Meanwhile, Chahal had an outstanding series against West Indies and he looked in his best touch despite not being among the wickets. He will be keen to replicate his good show against Sri Lanka now. Chahal and Jadeja have been playing together in Team India for a long time. Both keep on having a lot of fun with each other.

Notably, in a video shared by the BCCI, the all-rounder has said that it feels good to be back. “Good feeling to be back in the Indian team. Really looking forward to playing the T20 and Test series,” Jadeja said.

“I am feeling so good that finally after two months, I will be playing for India. I was keen to do my rehab properly. I have been working hard on my fitness in NCA. I am very excited for the series. I am playing after more than two months. I have been practising bowling, batting in Bengaluru. So I was in touch. Today, I felt very good after coming here for my first practice session,” added Jadeja.

Sanju Samson has got talent, has skillset to succeed, said Rohit Sharma

India and Sri Lanka will play the first T20I of the three-match series on Thursday. The victory over West Indies catapulted India to the top of the ICC rankings in T20Is, however Rohit Sharma know that these bilateral series wins will eventually count for nothing if India falter in the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia this year.

Meanwhile, in the press conference ahead of the T20I series against Sri Lanka on Wednesday, Rohit Sharma was asked about Sanju Samson.  Notably, the BCCI recently announced the squad for the series against Sri Lanka. Sanju Samson who last played during an away series against Sri Lanka in July 2021, has also been added.

“As a team management, we see lot of potential, we see lot of talent and we see lot of match-winning abilities in that individual. I hope we give Sanju Samson that confidence when he gets playing for us, and whenever he gets an opportunity I hope he understands that and definitely he is under consideration, which is why he is part of this team “.Captain Rohit Sharma said in the press conference .

“His back-foot play is superb, some of the shots you must have seen during the IPL, the pick-up pull, the cut shots, standing and delivering over bowler’s head. Those kinds of shots are not easy to play and I believe when we go to Australia, you need those kind of shot-making ability and Samson does has it in him. I just hope that he utilises his potential to the maximum.” Rohit added.

The fact that Samson has been given another chance despite India having two quality wicketkeeper-batters in Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul just shows how much the Indian team management trusts in the abilities of Samson. ” You know that guy has got talent. Whenever we have seen him bat in IPL and all of that, he has just produced an innings where everyone goes over the moon watching that inning,”.

“He has got the skill-set to succeed. Now that is the whole point about this sport, a lot of people have skill-set, have talent, but it is how you utilise them is the most critical part and I think, it is up to Sanju to understand how he want to utilise the talent and how he can maximise it,” Rohit said.

Sunil Gavaskar praised Jasprit Bumrah and said that the player was someone who could just walk into any team in the world. Bumrah was not in action for the West Indies series, but he will return for the Sri Lanka series. The Indian vice-captain will be joined by Siraj, Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Avesh Khan to lead India’s bowling attack.

Sunil Gavaskar said that India have bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah who can walk into any team. “There is Bumrah. Don’t forget him. He will walk into any team in the world, not just the India team, any team. Then you have Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami…spoiled for choices,” he said.

Sunil Gavaskar further said that Indian pacer Deepak Chahar is a terrific swing bowler and can swing the ball both ways and trouble the batters. “He is a terrific swing bowler. He has that extra pace as well. He isn’t express but he gets the ball to move at a decent pace which makes it difficult for a batsman. And he has got both the in-swinger and the out-swinger without a noticeable change in action. So when you have someone like him and have Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the bench after two fine performances in the series, India are blessed as far as riches in bowling are concerned,” said Gavaskar in a chat on Star Sports.

Team India have recently whitewashed West Indies in three matches ODI and as many games T20I series. The Rohit Sharma-led side registered a thumping win against the carrabbeans. India will next face Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series, which will be played from 24th March to 27th March in Lucknow and Dharamsala. 

Suryakumar Yadav ruled out of three match T20 series against Sri Lanka

India batter Suryakumar Yadav ruled out of the three-match T20 International series against Sri Lanka. Deepak Chahar also ruled out of the team’s upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka. The 3 matches series begins on February 24 at Lucknow. 

BCCI confirmed Suryakumar’s exclusion from the Sri Lanka T20I series in an official statement on their official website on Tuesday .”Deepak sustained a right quadriceps injury during bowling while Suryakumar suffered a hairline fracture during a fielding attempt in the third and final T20I against the West Indies in Kolkata on Sunday. They will now head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further management of their injuries,” BCCI said on a statement .

The 31-year old batsman suffered a hairline fracture on his hand and has been declared unfit for the SL series, reported Cricbuzz. Earlier, the BCCI had announced that Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant  would be rested for the series against Sri Lanka. However, due to bio-bubble protocols, the BCCI may not announce any replacements for the duo as India already have enough backup options in their squad to compete against the tourists.
