‘Tu bas six count karna aaj mere’ – When Dinesh Bana slammed 170 in a Challenger Trophy

India U19 team created history after lifting the World Cup Trophy for the record fifth time at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Saturday. India are the most successful team at U19 World Cups, having won titles in 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2018 previously.

India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Bana made the winning moment special for India as he completed India’s title win with a six. Coming in to bat after the fall of the 6th wicket, Bana upped the ante and remained unbeaten on 13 off just 5 balls. His cameo included 2 back-to-back sixes. His last six over long-on to give India their fifth title on Saturday. His shot reminded many of former India captain MS Dhoni’s six in the final of the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium.

However, Bana was not the first-choice keeper for the Indian side. In fact, during a Challenger Trophy match between India B and India F, Bana’s friend and teammate Nishant Sindhu told him that the selectors are coming to see him play. Bana told to Sindhu to just count the sixes that he hits. Interestingly
similar incident had happened with legendary keeper-batter Dhoni .

Bana’s knock of 170 contained 14 sixes and 10 fours and easily convinced the selectors to give him a chance. In hindsight, the move to back him proved out to be the correct one as he played quite a few cameos including in the summit clash where his six to finish off the match

‘Jyada sochna nahi, chill kar’ – Yuzvendra Chahal recalls MS Dhoni’s words

Yuzvendra Chahal has revealed that he received some insightful advice from legendary former captain MS Dhoni  during his most expensive T20I spell in 2018. Chahal credited former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni, for bringing belief and confidence in him.

During a conversation with off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, Chahal recalled a game from 2018 when he had conceded 64 runs in a T20I against South Africa, which is still the most expensive bowling effort for India in T20Is. Chahal still remembers Dhoni’s words, Heinrich Klaasen had got stuck into him smashing him for fours and sixes during his spell nothing was working. After that MS Dhoni had walked up to him to console and just told him to chill and not think much.

“Once, in a match where I got hit for 64 runs in a T20I in South Africa, and Klassen had hit me all around the park, Mahi bhai had told me to come around the wicket. I did that and he hit me for a six over the biggest boundary at mid-wicket. Then Mahi bhai came to me and I said, yes Mahi bhai, ab kya karna hai?. He said Kuch nahi, mai to waisehi aagaya tere paas. I know it’s not your day, you are trying but it isn’t happening. Zyada sochna nahi, apne chaar ka quota khatam kar aur chill kar” Chahal said remembering the incident.

“If at that time someone scolds you then your confidence level falls even lower. But he told me that it’s just one match. He said, ‘You did so well in ODIs, you won’t do well in every match, others are also playing.’ I also realized that in cricket sometimes you do well sometimes not and sometimes it’s just not your day. I also learned that when it’s not your day, you shouldn’t try too much and instead be economical and give others a chance to take wickets by building pressure,” Chahal added further.

IPL 2022: MS Dhoni, Likely to be Present For The IPL Mega Auction

The IPL 2022 mega auction is not too far away and the teams have their strategies in place. The existing eight teams have retained some top players but at the same time released top players ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni, who was retained by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 12 crore, arrived here to join their preparation for the Indian Premier League mega auction, scheduled for February 12 and 13. Notably, according to report MS Dhoni could be present for CSK at the table during the auction. Not only will this excite fans, but will also help CSK pick wisely as Dhoni would bring in all his experience while placing bids.

The franchisee shared a pic of Dhoni on Twitter. “Yes, he has arrived in Chennai today. He will be here for the auction discussions. He is likely to be present for the auction. But it is Mahi’s call and a call will be made close to the auction,” sources told. In November, CSK revealed the names of its four retained players. Jadeja was confirmed as its first-choice player for Rs. 16 crore, while Dhoni was the second-choice for Rs. 12 crore. England all-rounder Moeen Ali and India’s Ruturaj Gaikwad were the remaining two players retained by CSK for IPL 2022 for Rs. 8 crore and Rs. 4 crore, respectively.

“Again I’ve said it before, it depends on BCCI. With two new teams coming in, we have to decide what is good for CSK. It’s not about me being there in top-three or four. It’s about making a strong core to ensure the franchise doesn’t suffer. The core group, we have to have a hard look to see who can contribute for the next 10 years,” Dhoni told host broadcaster.

“I’m Not Married To Him”: Harbhajan Singh On MS Dhoni

Former Indian team off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has spoken openly about his relationship with Mahendra Singh Dhoni. he refused to accept there’s any rift between him and Dhoni and said they are good friends.

Harbhajan did not receive a lot of support from the Board of Control of Cricket in India and ‘external’ factors in the final phase of his career. , Harbhajan also pointed out how MS Dhoni enjoyed unmatched support from the board unlike other players . However, Harbhajan recently cleared the rumor on his relationship with Dhoni. He said: “Very nice. I am not married to him!”

“See, everyone interprets a quote differently. I just wanted to convey that a lot of things could have been better post 2012. Sehwag, me, Yuvraj , Gambhir could have retired playing for Indian team since all of them were active in IPL as well. It is ironical that the Champions of the 2011 team never played together again! Why? Only few of them played in 2015 World Cup, why?” Harbhajn asked.

“No, not at all. I have no complaints against MS. In fact, he has been a good friend all these years. I have complaint to the BCCI, the sarkar of that time. I call BCCI as sarkar! The selectors of that time didn’t do justice to their roles. They didn’t allow the team to be united,” he added.

Ravi Shastri on Dhoni –  He still doesn’t have Dhoni’s phone number

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has revealed that Dhoni doesn’t carry a mobile phone with him always and that if he wants, he can stay away from gadgets for quite some time.

Shastri and Dhoni shared India’s dtrssing room for many years. While speaking with former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar in a video on his YouTube channel, Shastri shed light on the personality of MS Dhoni, saying he’s never met anyone like him. Shastri spoke about Dhoni’s temperament being amazingly calm no matter what the result of his performance.

‘MS Dhoni was unreal. I have never seen a guy like him in my life. Whether he makes a zero or a 100, or lift a World Cup or get knocked out in the first round, it never mattered to him. I promise you, I have seen a lot of players but none like Dhoni. I have seen even Sachin Tendulkar. Fantastic temperament but sometimes gets angry but this guy never gets angry. He didn’t care,’ said Shastri on Shoaib Akhtar’s YouTube channel.

“If he can avoid having the phone in hand, he can avoid having the phone in hand. Till today, I don’t have his number. I have never asked for his number. I know he doesn’t carry his phone with him. When you want to get in touch with him, you know how to get in touch with him. He is that kind of a person,” Shastri added.
